Each week, The Broke and Bookish host a Top Ten Tuesday based on a certain bookish topic. Other bloggers are able to participate and post their own top ten list based on the topic.
This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is Top Ten Favorite Authors in X Genre. This week, I’ll choose the young adult since that includes a huge variety of books. (;
So here’s my favorite list of authors in no particular order:
1) Stephanie Perkins
I love, love, love Stephanie Perkins. She writes the best books (Anna and the French Kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door) and she’s super duper nice and friendly. Not to mention, she’s brave enough to dye her hair McDonald Red and grape purple.
2) Jennifer Echols
I just love Jennifer Echols‘s books. They literally drag you in with a vine-like grip and never let you go until you fall in love with them.
3) Ellen Hopkins
Ellen Hopkins is the author that isn’t afraid of touching hard tough topics. She writes about drugs, rape, HIV, prostitution, eating disorders, pregnant teens, basically anything that you can think of.
4) Susane Colasanti
I loved Susane Colasanti’s books when I first read When It Happens right when that was her first published book. I just fell in love with Toby and Sara’s story. Lately, her books has me questioning why I’m a fan of her the first place (they have slowly been getting worse and worse), but then, When It Happens was where it all began.
5) Miranda Kenneally
Catching Jordan was one of the best young adult sporty book I’ve ever read. It made me smile, laugh, and tear up a bit. I’ll read anything with Miranda Kenneally’s name on it. The thing is, though, her books are getting more and more religious and less and less sporty, and I don’t know how I’ll feel about that.
6) Julie Kagwara
Julie Kagwara is one of those amazing authors that can make you smile like an idiot one moment and sobbing hard the next. She’s an excellent storyteller and writer (I should know, I brought her entire Iron Fey series after I just read one book written by her. That’s how much I trust her).
7) Elizabeth Scott
Elizabeth Scott is the one author that I can find tons of meaningful quotes from. Her books are real, steady, and can tore you apart. They make you want to find real justice, pray for the characters, and hope everyone gets their own happy ending.
8) Simone Elkeles
Simone Elkeles is the one author who knows how to write a real devastating, addictive, love story. Her Perfect Chemistry series will tug on your heartstrings and make you smile like a fool. Please write more books Simone Elkeles!
9) Brodi Ashton
Although Brodi Ashton is a debut author, Everneath just dragged me down and wouldn’t let me go. I love her writing style and how her writing makes me feel. She got me really excited one minute, and the next, left me emotionally drained. I so can’t wait for January (when the sequel Everbound comes out).
10) Huntley Fitzpatrick
The first thing you should know about me is that I had never loved any book that was just a young adult novel with no major paranormal or romance elements in it. I wasn’t expecting to love Huntley Fitzpatrick’s My Life Next Door, but boy, did I love it. Hopefully she’ll write more novels that I can enjoy. (:
So here’s my top ten favorite authors of the young adult genre. What would your top ten list look like?
