WAITING ON WEDNESDAY is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
This week, I can’t wait for a sequel to one of my favorite books ever.
Smoke
Author: Ellen Hopkins
Series: Burned #2
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Poetry
Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry
Release Date: September 10
Summary:
Pattyn Von Stratten’s father is dead, and Pattyn is on the run. After far too many years of abuse at the hands of her father, and after the tragic loss of her beloved Ethan and their unborn child, Pattyn is desperate for peace. Only her sister Jackie knows what happened that night, but she is stuck at home with their mother, who clings to normalcy by allowing the truth to be covered up by their domineering community leaders. Her father might be finally gone, but without Pattyn, Jackie is desperately isolated. Alone and in disguise, Pattyn starts a new life, but is it even possible to rebuild a life when everything you’ve known has burned to ash and lies seem far safer than the truth?
After reading Burned, my heart broke in half. What will Pattyn do? Will she really do it? How will she move on? I guess we will find out in Smoke.
The cover is also gorgeous and totally matches the title.
What book are you looking forward to reading this week?
I need to hurry up and read something by Ellen Hopkins. I’m so slow!
Usually people recommend you start with Crank, but I personally recommend Burned. The book just tore my heart in half and crushed it. I literally cried for an hour, the story was that emotional.
