Waiting On Wednesday [31]

WAITING ON WEDNESDAY is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

This week, I can’t wait for a retelling of Beauty and the Beast.

cruelbeautyCruel Beauty
Author: Rosamund Hodge
Series: None
Genre: Young Adult, Romance, Fantasy
Publisher: Balzer & Bray
Release Date: January 28, 2014
Summary:

Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom — all because of a reckless bargain her father struck. And since birth, she has been training to kill him.
Betrayed by her family yet bound to obey, Nyx rails against her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, she abandons everything she’s ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, disarm him, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.
But Ignifex is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle — a shifting maze of magical rooms — enthralls her. As Nyx searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex’s secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. But even if she could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, could she refuse her duty to kill him?
Based on the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, Cruel Beauty is a dazzling love story about our deepest desires and their power to change our destiny.

I love the Beauty and the Beast fairytale and when I heard about a retelling with the added assassin twist, I knew I had to read Cruel Beauty asap.

And let’s not forget the breathtaking cover. I love everything about it – the staircase, the colors, and the girl.

What book are you looking forward to reading this week?

Ooh, I’m excited for this one too! And i totally agree, love the twist of how the beauty is trained to kill the beast here, not just some retelling of how the beauty fall in love with a beastly guy! That castle of his sounds amazing too 0.0
    Thanks for sharing :D

This first got my attention in the Cover Madness Giveaway Hop – it was all over the place, and rightfully so! I love the assassin twist as well :D But honestly I’m also really looking forward to the magic castle. I love secret passageways etc and I hope they keep the beast’s library in the retelling ;)

Too bad there would not be any real assassinating, or else there won’t be a love story at all. ):
They better keep the beast’s library in the retelling! D:< Otherwise, I'll be so so disappointed. Kelly recently posted…Waiting On Wednesday [31]My Profile

I’m also a big fan of retellings. I haven’t seen many YA beauty and beast ones so I can’t wait for this one. 2014 is so far away
