WAITING ON WEDNESDAY is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
This week, I can’t wait for a book people keep hearing about lately.
The Winner’s Curse
Author: Marie Rutkoski
Series: The Winner’s Trilogy #1
Genre: Young Adult, Romance, Fantasy, Dystopia
Publisher: Farrar, Straus and Giroux (BYR)
Release Date: March 4, 2014
Summary:
Seventeen-year-old Kestrel is an aristocratic citizen of Valoria, a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers. Here, a girl like Kestrel has two choices: join the military or get married. Despite her skills in military strategy, Kestrel’s real passion is music. Which is why she feels compelled to buy Arin, a slave with a talent for singing, at auction. It’s not long before she finds herself falling in love with Arin, and he seems to feel the same for her. But Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for Arin is much higher than she ever could have imagined.
Set in a new world, The Winner’s Curse is a story of wicked rumors, dirty secrets, and games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.
Ever since the cover of this book has been revealed, I’ve been stuck to this book like glue. I mean, a girl holding a knife on the cover? And just look at that breathtaking dress!
I also love the title font and how the title is positioned on the cover. Gorgeous.
And imagine falling in love with your slave. Such creativity.
I will totally beg/lie/steal to get this one early. ;D
What book are you looking forward to reading this week?
That cover is stunning! I’m in love with it already!
Plus, the synopsis sounds really intriguing and I want to know what ” the price she paid for Arin is much higher than she ever could have imagined” means! I’m definitely going to have to get this book when it comes out now. And I’ll be adding it to my TBR so that I don’t forget!
Great pick! :D

I know! When I first saw the stunning cover, all I thought was NEED TO GET THIS IN MY HANDS NOW.
Ha ha, that mysterious line only adds to the whole mystery. ;D
Thanks! (:
The cover for this one is beautiful! The dress she’s wearing looks gorgeous and I love the way she’s clutching onto the R – amazing font treatment! I don’t think I’ve ever seen something like that in a cover before (but maybe I just don’t remember). I didn’t actually notice the knife until you mentioned it, haha. Great pick, Kelly!

Ha ha, the knife is a nice touch. I wish she has a little assassin side to her. ;D

Well, I don’t know about begging, lying, or stealing- but don’t you live in the US? If so, I may just be able to hook a girl up. :)

Yes, so pretty! They were giving away ARCs at the Decatur Book fest, but I was too slow. My feet wouldn’t move fast enough to grab one. I plan to read Shadow Society just to see Rutkoski’s writing … and to distract me during the wait of this one :D

I plan on getting The Shadow Society just to see Rutkoski’s writing too! Great minds think alike. ;D
