Judge A Book By Its Signature: Just One Day – Gayle Forman

judgeabook

I don’t know about you, but my signature is downright ugly. And lame. Let’s not forget lame. Every time I sign my name on something, whether it be a receipt or a new credit card, I wince inside. I don’t know how people come up with such awesome pretty signatures. I’m totally out of the loop with that.

One day, after getting multiple books signed, I thought what if instead of judging a book by its cover, you judge the book by the author’s signature? Will the author’s signature attract you to the book? Will you still buy the book then?

This week, I’m featuring Just One Day by Gayle Forman.

cover

When I first saw the cover of Just One Day, I thought it was nothing special…until I saw the cover in person. I feel that the cover of Just One Day is more gorgeous in person, especially the back cover. Oh man, if only you guys can see the back cover of the book right now.

Not really. Although the cover is pretty, especially the back cover, nothing about the cover really screams BUY ME! to me.

signature

Gayle Forman’s signature is GORGEOUS! I love the “G,” I love her loppy “y,” and I especially love the cute “xo” she adds. (Too bad that if I add an “xo” to my signature, it’ll look SUPER cheesy.) This is one signature I’ll love to have.

Yes. No doubt at all about this one.

Will you buy Just One Day based on the author’s signature alone?

I would buy the book based on the part of her autograph where she writes “Anything can happen.” I love stuff like that because I feel like they make me think more. I just met her on Saturday and she didn’t write anything cool like that in Just One Year so I was really bummed! But I do love her signature,

I love taglines too, they make you think.
Hmm, maybe Just One Year doesn’t have a tagline or she didn’t come up with one yet? And you’re so lucky to be able to get your hands on Just One Year already!
Gayle Forman’s signature is awesome! <3

Yes, I would buy this book based on her signature. I really like it and it’s hard to duplicate, which make it more special to me :)

I can’t copy Gayle Forman’s signature to save the life of me. :P
That’s another thing I love about her signature. :D

Ooh, I love her signature more than the cover too! The “F” in her last name is so pretty. When I read the “Anything can happen…” bit, Ellie Goulding’s song immediately got stuck in my head.

The “F” part of her name is so unique too! I don’t know how she can write it like that, I doubt I can copy her “F,” even when I’m tracing it.
I’ve never heard of that song before. o___o

See, I think for me the actual signature itself isn’t as important as what they choose to write. So “Anything can happen…” While I think that’s interesting and sort of makes me curious, I think I’d like it better if it directly related to the title “Just One Day”. Like, when I went to David Levithan’s event and got him to sign Invisibility, he wrote “Visibly Yours.” As cheesy as that kind of thing can be, I like it because it goes with the title of the book.

Sort of off topic but yeah ><

Nah, it’s not off topic Asti, I totally get what you mean. And ha ha, that’s cute! I saw some signed books of Invisibility, but didn’t see that tagline. Maybe he only writes it when he personalizes a book? Some authors do that.
As for Gayle Forman’s signature and tagline, I think it is directed toward the title Just One Day – I think Gayle Forman is trying to say that in just one day, anything can happen. That’s always the impression I had.
