Top Ten Best/Worst Series Enders

toptentuesday

Each week, The Broke and Bookish host a Top Ten Tuesday based on a certain bookish topic. Other bloggers are able to participate and post their own top ten list based on the topic.

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is a Top Ten Best/Worst Series Enders. I’ll start with listing the worst ones because I want to end this TTT on a good note.

Please note that I don’t really finish a lot of series endings, so this list was a real struggle. :P

So here’s my list in no particular order:

The Worse/Meh Series Endings:

requiem ifishoulddie inher

1. Requiem by Lauren Oliver
An open ending makes me feel like I read the entire series for no reason. I mean, there’s no absolutely no resolution! None whatsoever! That should be a crime.

2. If I Should Die by Amy Plum
I’ll say something about this one, but I’m worried that super-fans of this series would be offended, so I’ll rather keep my mouth shut. You can just read my Series Overview to get my overall thoughts on the series.

3. The Goddess Inheritance by Aimee Carter
This one was pretty meh. I think my review explains it a lot better than I can explain it right now.

chosen timekeeper everlasting

4. Chosen At Nightfall by C.C. Hunter
After four long books filled with probably one of the worse love triangles ever that just wouldn’t end, the “solution” to the love triangle just angered me. Add a Mary Sue that became even more of a Mary Sue in this book and this series was just not for me.

5. Timekeeper by Alexandra Monir
I don’t know if this one is the last book in the series exactly, but I think it is. Anyways, after an excellent first book that I absolutely loved, Timekeeper, the sequel, managed to ruin the entire series for me in the worse way possible. Now, I can’t even stand to look at Timeless, the first book without shuddering and remembering Timekeeper.

6. Everlasting by Alyson Noel
Okay, the covers of this series is absolutely gorgeous, but the series overall was horrible and hard to read (not in the mentally hard to read way, but the painful hard to read way). Everlasting ended with the ending everybody could easily predict if they read the other five books in the series: Ever and Damen finally are allowed to have sex and does.

The Best Series Endings:

therising smoke unbreakable

7. The Rising by Kelley Armstrong
I love how this one ended. It wasn’t a completely happy ending, but it was a good ending nevertheless. Plus, one of my favorite couples finally got together. Yay! :D

8. Smoke by Ellen Hopkins
Again, I don’t know if Smoke is really the last book in the Burned series, but I think it is, especially since Ellen Hopkins’ book series usually comes in twos. Anyways, thank goodness we finally have a good ending to reassure us and make us happy, especially after that heartbreaking ending in Burned.

9. Unbreakable by Elizabeth Norris
Okay, Unbreakable is both the worst ending a series can have because one of my favorite characters died (noo, Elizabeth Norris how can you do that to me?!), but at the same time, I absolutely love this series to death. :P

thereckoning10. The Reckoning by Kelley Armstrong
Another one of my favorite bookish couples. I hope this isn’t a spoiler because by now, everybody should have read this series (if you haven’t yet, then what are you waiting for?!), but Derek and Chloe are so darn cute together. I love how Chloe redeems Derek and Derek redeems Chloe – they really are the perfect fit. -sighs wistfully-

And now, I want to know, what are your top ten best/worst series enders?

I agree with Requiem! A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. It started of good, but the ending had to ruin the whole series.

I had a hard time too because I have so many series I’m almost done with. It’s redonk. Requiem is one of the 6 on my list and it was a best for me. I actually am surprised that it was a favorite book of mine out of the trilogy because usually I hate open endings.

Requiem is topping the worst ender almost everywhere. And Immortals series by Alyson Noel was terrible – I don’t know how I tolerated 6 books of bad writing for sake of that ridiculous sunshine-n-rainbows-n-unicorns ending.

I really struggled with this weeks’s Top Ten Post as there are so many series that I’ve started but haven’t finished. I want to read Lauren Oliver’s Delirium series but I’ve heard mixed reviews about Requiem.

I too was so disappointed in CHosen at Nightfall and Goddess Inheritance. I wanted the endings to be epic, and they were just so… blah. Not a good way to go out.

And – NO. Do not tell me that someone croaks at the end of Unbreakable. I just finished Unraveling two weeks ago (review up this Thursday), and absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVED it. I can’t imagine any of those characters that are left dying. :(

I enjoyed the first two well enough; the second one made me cry. The third and final one, however, was just plain boredom. There was no sense of panic whatsoever, which is bad, especially with a plot like that. :l

I applaud you for finishing the Immortal series. I could barely get through the first three, let alone the whole series. Funny thing though, it wasn’t that I didn’t like the plot in those books, I actually I quite enjoyed the overall plot, but it was the characters where painful to read for. The worst was Ever, I can’t even say why, I just hated her.
This is why I am terrified to continue the Delirium series. Requiem has been on so many peoples Top Ten today. It seems like everybody hates it.

I haven’t actually read most of these. ^^’ I’ve read the first two Born at Midnight books and actually liked them. Not loved, but liked. As for Alyson Noel’s books, I’ve borrowed the first two with a friend, felt iffy about the second, and when she told me not to even bother with the third I stopped. It takes them 6 books to finally do it?! I was already annoyed in the second one. I mean I know you shouldn’t rush it, but if it’s to break a curse that’s plagued you for hundreds of years? Just do it and break it and live happily ever after.
I’ve seen Requiem in pretty much every post today o.O Doesn’t make me more convinced to start the series tbh.
And I need to read a Kelley Armstrong book. It’s a crime that I’ve never read any of her novels.

I know! SIX BOOKS. SIX BOOKS. (That deserves to be written twice. :P) I tried re-reading the first book again since I read the Immortals series when I was in 6th grade, but I could not get past the first book the second time. It was such a struggle.
If you really want to read the Delirium series, just read Delirium and Pandemonium and avoid the rest Carmen. o:

HAHAHAHA at Everlasting. I got through the other five books in that series, and then I picked up the last one and just couldn’t do it. It was really heard to read because while reading every book you were just like: COME ON, just get together, already. And then there was the love triangle, and the EVIL love triangle, and just everything was so painful. So I returned it to the library, and have not not been able to get it out again. I don’t know if I will ever finish that series, to be honest.

My friend and I have a scale to rate book endings on when we’re telling each other about the book either of us just read.

I completely agree with Requiem having a horrible ending and that ranks lowest while Shades of Earth by Beth Revis is our top one because it ended so fabulously for such a great series. Everything else gets categorised in between. It’s a lovely system
