Top Ten (Okay, Nine) 2014 Debuts I’m Excited For

toptentuesday

Each week, The Broke and Bookish host a Top Ten Tuesday based on a certain bookish topic. Other bloggers are able to participate and post their own top ten list based on the topic.

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is a Top Ten 2014 Debuts I’m Excited For. There sadly isn’t much 2014 debut books I’m looking forward to reading, which is why this list consists of only 9 books.

So here’s my list in no particular order:

cruelbeauty sideeffectsmayvary thegirlwithallthegifts

1. Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge
A retelling of Beauty and the Beast with an assassin twist? I’m SO in.

2. Side Effects May Vary by Julie Murphy
This book sounds similar to Before I Die by Jenny Downham, but has the potential to be really awesome. I hope it lives up to its premise!

3. The Girl With All The Gifts by M.R. Carey
This book! It’s so mysterious and I want to know a lot more about the narrator – why is she being treated like this? What’s her secret? I want to know!

prisonerofnightandfog dorothymustdie fakingnormal

4. Prisoner of Night and Fog by Anne Blankman
Anything World War II or Hitler related, I’m so there. This book deals with both.

5. Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige
I love retellings! Hopefully this one will live up to its premise or I’ll be really disappointed.

6. Faking Normal by Courtney C. Stevens
I’m usually not into contemporaries, but so far people are loving this one so why not give it a chance?

mylastkiss halfbad amadwickedfolly

7. My Last Kiss by Bethany Neal
The cover says it all.

8. Half Bad by Sally Green
Good witches and bad witches! I haven’t read much witch books and the ones I did read weren’t good, but hopefully this one will be the first ever great witch book I read!

9. A Mad Wicked Folly by Sharon Biggs Waller
I love the premise of this one and it’s a historical fiction book! I’m so there, just for the outfits. Also, I’ve been hearing really promising things about this one and I am intrigued.

And now, I want to know, what are your top ten books 2014 debuts you are excited for?

A few of these made my list too, but a couple didn’t so I’m on my way to GR to check ’em out :)

Half Bad made my list too, mostly because it is a modern-day story and it seemed from the description that witches are part of the every day world. Here’s hoping that it’s a great witch book for us both!

Faking Normal should definitely be on this list. I read it some time ago and it is fabulous. It is such a great story. Happy to see you want to give it a chance. I think I may read Side Effects May Vary next. I have it on my Kindle and people seem to be going crazy about it.

    Great list.

I have Dorothy Must Die and Cruel Beauty on my list, too. The Girl With All the Gifts sounds amazing, I’m really curious to see what’s it all about! A Mad, Wicked Folly and Half Bad are on my to-read too. Nice list! :)

I really hope Side Effects May Vary lives up to our expectations, too. It sounds great, and I’ve seen quite a bit of positive feedback for it so far. Also looking forward to A Mad, Wicked Folly. :) I just finished Cruel Beauty and loved it, but after having read the prequel story to Dorothy Must Die, I’m not looking forward to that one as much. Hope these all end up being awesome, though. Great picks!

I’ve also got Cruel Beauty and Half Bad on my list :) I debated incuding Prisoner of Night and Fog but I don’t think I’ll read it. I’ve had my share of WWII books in high school and I read The Book Thief last summer – that one’s hard to top, I think.
This is the first time I’ve heard of My Last Kiss and I really needed to add it to my TBR ;)

This is the first I’ve heard of The Girl With all the Gifts. It sounds pretty interesting. Great list, can’t wait for Prisoner of Night and Fog & Faking Normal!

    Cruel beauty <3<3

Dorothy must die is also on my list this week. Sounds like such an unique twist on the story :D Prisoner of night and fog is a book I'm very excited for. I haven't read much books about wars lately and I'm always in for historical fiction. The same for a good witch book, but there aren't so much – I have high hopes for Half bad!

I’m really looking forward to Dorothy Must Die! It sounds morbid, so therefore awesome. And Cruel Beauty….eep, I just read a review that raved about it! Great picks. :)

Great list! I’m so excited for so many of these and a few made my list too. Side Effects May Vary is one of the books I am most looking forward to reading, it looks so good! There seems to be so many good books coming out in 2014, I’m not sure where I’ll find the time to read them all. I hope you get to all of your picks :) My TTT.

Cruel Beauty. Oh my God. I am a sucker for anything remotely Beauty and the Beast. And I’m kind of staying away from summaries or commentaries or anything. So all I know about it is what you said here: Beauty and the Beast with an assassin twist. I refuse to know anything else about it until I get to read it for myself!
The other one catching my eye is Prisoner of Night and Fog. First of all- freaking amazing title. The image it creates in my mind is definitely one I want to explore. Second of all- I love WW2 related books. I haven’t read too many. But I’ve read The Diary of Anne Frank a few times. So I’m excited to read this one!

Interesting list. Sadly for me, there are only four books on there that I have previously heard of. Cruel Beauty, Prisoner of Night and Fog and Dorothy Must Die are all books that I am definitely excited to read. With all the books coming out in 2014 I’m having a hard time keeping track of what I’m interested in and what I need to get my hands on. After checking out your list I will say that there are now some more books to add to my to-read list. Side Effects May Vary sounds like it would be an amazing read. I like the whole idea that she has to deal with the stuff she did when she thought she was going to die. Bookwise 2014 is going to be a great year for me. Well maybe in general too :)

Oh! I’m also excited for Side Effects Will Vary! The #1 book that I’m most forward to reading this year though is probably Opposition by Jennifer L. Armentrout. It is not a debut but I can’t believe that I’m actually caught up on this series because I’m so behind on literally every other series that I’m reading.
