I have this weird preference when it comes to books. Well, it’s not really weird since I’m sure some people share this preference too (maybe) and we can all be weird together.
Unlike most people who cringe at the size of thick books, I actually like thick books. The thicker, the better, in my opinion, unless it’s like Grave Mercy thick because even that scares me. The hardcover thickness of Grave Mercy is a monster. The perfect book thickness for me is Laini Taylor’s Dreams of Gods and Monsters. Now that book size is perfection. Simply, thick books make me happy.
In a way, thin books in general scare me off. Some examples are the hardcovers of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and Love Letters to the Dead. Those two books are just so thin.
There is an exception, sort of, to this “thick books” rule of mine. I don’t care what size physical ARCs are, unless if their width is less than one centimeter. Believe me, I have seen ARCs and books that size that are not picture books or middle school books and it just scares me away from reading the book.
Told you I’m weird.
The nightmare of loving thick books is that thick books are heavy. When I buy a bunch of thick books or just bring them for an author book signing, I always feel like I’m lifting weights.
How about you? Do you have this thickness book preference or do you feel the opposite?
