The Book Signing With Melissa de la Cruz, Susan Ee, Alexandra Bracken, and Chuck Wendig

booksigning

Yesterday night, I came home from an extremely fun book signing at the 92Y, consisting of Melissa de la Cruz (author of the Blue Bloods series and The Ring and the Crown), Susan Ee (author of Angelfall and World After), Alexandra Bracken (author of The Darkest Minds and Never Fade), and Chuck Wendig. It was a last minute decision to attend since I found out the day before the book signing that the $22 tickets required to enter the book signing were given out for free. At first, I wasn’t sure I wanted to attend even though tickets were free because by the time the book signing would be over, I would get home at 11PM and I have to work the very next day and I was really tired already. However, with the urge of my friends and several people on twitter, I decided to attend. I did not regret it.

Sorry if the pictures are blurry; even though I was sitting in the very front, the photo quality of my iTouch is horrible as you guys can tell.

Chuck Wendig talked about something he created called “cornpunk.” He also talked about how he gets a lot of ideas, but he has to choose which one to write about.

Alexandra Bracken announced that the title of her third book was just announced three hours ago; it would be called “In the Afterlight.” She is glad that the title is finally out because she was afraid of accidentally giving it away while talking to people.

The authors also talked about trends. Susan Ee mentioned that trends were one of the reasons why she decided to self-publish her books instead of publishing it through a publisher. She told us that an agent told her that she would normally reject all angel manuscripts because she was so tired of reading them except that angels were trending, so she couldn’t do that. Alexandra Bracken mentioned that the old publishing company she worked for before the one she is currently working in now was crazy about trends. For example, when dystopians were trending (The Hunger Games anyone?), that publisher would tell everyone to bring them ALL the dystopian manuscripts and only the dystopian manuscripts.

Melissa de la Cruz mentioned how she and her husband loved The Ring and the Crown book trailer and I do too! She also talked about how The Ring and the Crown was the first book in awhile that she has written by herself without the help of her husband.

And some Susan Ee news! There is no official release date for Book 3 yet; Susan Ee doesn’t know where the people from Goodreads get their release dates from. There *might* be a fourth and fifth book; she originally planned the series to have five books, but as of now, she’s working on books three and four to see if Penryn & the End of Days series really does need a fourth and fifth book. And I’m sure major fans of Susan Ee will love to hear this: Raffe will definitely be in the 3rd book.

During the signing, I personally asked Melissa de la Cruz if The Ring and the Crown would be a series because Goodreads said it would be. (You know how I always side-eye Goodreads.) Good news guys – she said The Ring and the Crown will be a series! She and her publisher just haven’t announced it yet.

I am probably missing A LOT of things that were talked about in the chat, but I was tired and too hyper to take notes, so sorry to anyone that wants to know EVERYTHING that the authors had talked about.

I’m so glad you decided to go! I was one of the twitter people nudging you to. I knew you would be glad you went! It’s great to hear how excited you were and all of the things you got to learn from them. It’s always amazing getting to hear things from the authors themselves, and I’m sure it was lovely getting to meet them and get your books signed :)
