Today’s topic is pet peeves and oh boy, where do I even start with this topic? I have A LOT of pet peeves.
1. People who stuff themselves inside an already full subway car.
No, just NO. I do not need to feel your breath on my face. Go away. Wait for the next car.
2. People who walk slow.
I understand that the elderly walks slow and mothers with baby carriages do too. However, if your age ranges anywhere from a teenager to your early thirties, YOU JUST DO NOT WALK SLOW IN A BUSY STREET IN MANHATTAN, especially when there’s no other directions somebody else can take to walk around you. Just, no, no, NO!
3. When people say “hey!” Me: “Yes?” Them: “Never mind.” Me: “No tell me!” Them: “Never mind.”
Then why call me the first place? My sister does this A LOT and it just drives me CRAZY.
4. When people touch me anywhere without permission.
I don’t like to be touched without permission. Even a simple pat on the shoulder (ahem, my doctor) makes me annoyed.
5. People who play music on their phone/music player WAY too loud.
I was sitting on the train once and this woman came and sat next to me. Her music was SO loud that I could hear EVERY word the singer was singing, PLUS my right ear was buzzing angrily from the too loud music (she was sitting next to be on the right side of the train). Add the fact that I was trying to read and you get a very annoyed and angry Kelly.
6. People who borrow your pen or pencil and never give it back.
And when you ask for it the next day (if you remember to), they are like “oh, I left it at home.”
7. When the person sitting behind you won’t stop kicking/pushing/shoving/bumping your chair.
This happened to me today and I thought about turning around and yelling at the person behind me, “do you MIND?”
8. When people don’t use escalators correctly.
There is a system for escalators that can fit more than two people at a time side by side: The right side is for people who want to walk up or down on the escalator because they are in a hurry and the left side is just for people who don’t want to move. Why don’t people get this simple system?
9. When people blame their own mistakes on you.
I am facing this problem right now and it just makes me really annoyed. Power really gets into people’s heads.
I am pretty sure I have A LOT more pet peeves, but I can’t think of them all as of now.
How about you? Do you share the same pet peeves as I do? Do you have some other pet peeves that I didn’t list? I want to know!
Yes on the slow walking. And then they suddenly stop in the middle of the way and you can’t get through. Ghaaaaah! Also, old people at the grocery store. When they have to pay and they pay with all the little cents and it takes aaaaaages.

We have a LOT of similar pet peeves! #1 is the reason why I am always reluctant to take the train. People are just so pushy and sometimes they won’t even move for you to get out so you have to push too. Which is quite difficult for a small person. XD And I also hate people who walk really really slow. I try so hard to overtake them, but sometimes there’s a whole group of them and you can’t get past. But you are in such a hurry and it is just awful! I also hate it when people borrow stuff and forget to return it. I’ve lost a lot of pens, and worse an umbrella! And it’s also awful when someone keeps on moving that they hit, bump, kick, shake, etc. my seat.

A lot of your pet peeves bother me as well! Esp. 2, 3, and 8. One of my pet peeves is when people chew their food really loudly… It really bothers me!

I completely agree on the whole pencil things. It’s so annoying when people just take your stuff and then forget about it! Also, I’ve been faced with a lot if uncomfortable travel situations where the person sitting behind me JUST WON’T STOP KICKING. AAAAnd they’re not even unborn babies.

Slow walking: YES. If there is nothing wrong with your legs, please move in normal speed.
Loud music: annoying. I don’t need to hear what you are listening too. Plus it’s so bad for your ears. The only thing I think about is how soon that person is going to be deaf.
Kicking chair: uuugh. It happens in the cinema all the time and it makes me cranky. It’s distracting.
And if you make a mistake, admit it.
Strange. When I try to think about pet peeves I can’t come up with them. OH, I HATE it when other people poke around my plate when I’m eating. My mother/sister know it and they still like to steal my ketchup (or whatever sauce I’m eating at that time.) I just.. don’t like it. I don’t mind sharing, but it annoys me when they stick their food in my plate when I’m eating.

I can relate with the calling and not answering why. I get easily pissed by that as well! We have a lot of pet peeves that are the same as well! :D I definitely relate with the last one. Hate people like this.

I haven’t posted my pet peeves yet, hopefully later today, but we have a lot in common. I found your #8 very interesting though. In DC, it’s the exact opposite. If you stand to the left on a DC escalator, you’re likely to get yelled at. It’s the fast lane and where people will run you over. The right side is for standing. :)
Another of my escalator pet peeves is what we have dubbed “escalumps” in DC. It’s those stupid people who stop right at the top (or bottom) of an escalator and block the flow of traffic. The bottom of the escalator is not the place to check your tourist map or make sure you have all your children. Step aside, folks.

YES! This! When people stop at the top or bottom of stairs… or really anywhere. People just stop right in the middle of the flow of traffic all the time. Since I am a faster walker, I usually end up walking right into them.
Tourists! I hate tourists! They are the worst offenders of this. I usually like to be friendly and offer assistance when people look lost, but when you stop in the middle of the street/transport area/shopping area, you are just rude and you deserve to be lost.
I won’t even go for walks in some of my favorite areas of NYC because I get so irritated by all the stoppers and slow walkers that I can’t even enjoy myself.

That chick in #5 is going to be sorry when she loses her hearing!
I’m guilty of #3 – I do this to my husband way too much. In my defense, I get a kick out of driving him crazy sometimes. ;) Honestly, I will start talking out loud and don’t really mean to get his attention. Then he’s disappointed when he finds out what I was going to say. Maybe your sister wants to drive you crazy? lol!
I’m used to #7 happening to me because I have two kids. Still super annoying, especially when they won’t stop! >.<
YES to #9!! I'm a full time parent now, but back when I was working, this happened to me all the time! It's very disheartening. It happens to my husband in his job and makes my blood boil. :/

I definitely agree with the one about touch me! I’ve actually unfriended someone in real life because they touched me WAY too much and I was like “I’m not feeling this at all bye bye.” The slow thing is so annoying as well because in the hallways I’m trying to get to class and some people are just so slo wand it actually frustrates me so much. Fantastic list! <33

No touching: absolutely. I can’t even be hugged by my family unless they warn me that they’re coming in for one.
Escalators: there’s an actual system for those? I guess that’s the difference between living in a big city versus itty bitty city.
Oh, and for people who hit your chair, I totally support you yelling at them 100%! Just don’t kick chairs, it’s simple as that, and if you do, then you deserve to be yelled at anyway.
Kayla @ The Thousand Lives recently posted…Do You Preorder Books?
OMG #4 is me. Don’t touch me. I’d add to that, don’t you dare touch my phone without me giving it to you. (It’s like a piece of my mind, it has nothing too personal accessible on it, but it’s the most “mine” thing I own).
The escalator thing is funny. Where I live, people just stand on escalators. We’re all too lazy to move. I’ve always thought it was a social norm to just stand on the escalator. When I went to Montreal with my mom, it was the opposite: people were walking up and down, and it took a few seconds for me to realize it. It’s just funny how things are different.
My pet peeves are:
1. Asking for stuff all the time.
2. Coughing into your hands, or not even bothering to cover your cough.
3. Those awful people that stand in the middle of the sidewalk, waiting for a bus, and won’t move, even when they see you coming. They deserve the awkward brush by treatment they get.
4. When you open a door to get in, and someone just pushes past you on the way out. Rude.
5. On the bus, it is clearly known that the front is reserved for old/superyoung/mothers/disabled people. There’s people though that don’t move for seniors, and the seniors are forced to stand. Like, have you no manners?
Haha those were just off the top of my head. I think I like to rant a lot. :p

Ack I wrote a really long comment of pet peeves (agree with your touching thing, weird escalator experiences) and it got deleted somehow so that’s one pet peeve. Second, I hate repeating myself. Either way, the world can be a very irritating place sometimes.Sigh.

I don’t like people who walk slow either (or cart leaners at the grocery store).
I am not sure how I feel about you saying elderly people walk slow as if that is fine (which it is) BUT then you say teens to 30 somethings can’t walk slow.
I’m past 30 — but I’m certainly not elderly.
All said with a smile – I remember being in my 20s and never being able to imagine being 40!!! Those people were OLD! LOL!!
Enjoyed your list.
When someone asks “what’s new?” casually in the hallway like “how goes it.” Because I usually don’t ever have anything new to say and then I just mutter, “nothing.” Who has news to share with acquaintances in the hallway? Just ask me how I am and keep walking because I know you don’t want to really know.

Living in Boston myself, I feel your pain. Here is one of my biggest pet peeves… when people cross streets against the light. Now here me out… normally jaywalking is not a problem and even I do it all the time. What I hate (HATE HATE HATE!!) is when people do it at those really busy intersections where they are screwing up traffic by doing it. I have two spots like this on my walk to work where a-holes are constantly almost getting themselves killed and are slowing up traffic and making a mess just because they want to get where they are going 20 seconds soon. WTF!?! It enrages me! Okay… now I have to sip my tea and try to slow my blood pressure.

Agh these are SO annoying! Really good choices here, I completely agree. People cramming themselves onto an already full carriage is just ridiculous!

I am a slow walker and I don’t use the escalator correctly. Thank goodness we don’t live near each other!
Some of my pet peeves:
1. People that walk/ride their bike in the middle of a small road and refuse to move closer to the curb until I’m about to run them over.
2. People that jay walk on busy roads! It’s worse when they’re wearing all black at night!
3. People that visit me and act like it is literally their home. Note to all visitors. You can trash your house all you want, the moment you step through my door, you better learn that your trash goes in the garbage, not the floor.
Ughhhh slow walkers leading I to and an Ughhh for the whole left lane issue. It just isn’t a hard concept!!!!!

Gaaah, all of these annoy me, too!
Especially number 3 ’cause just spill or shut up and number 4 ’cause anytime someone taps me on the shoulder I want to break their finger. I get blood on my mind, yo. Not even kidding.
Alright, enough weirdness for today ha ha.

The slow walking people are the worst! And ughhh, I hate lending out things to other people because 8 times out of 10, I won’t get it back. But it’s so awkward to say no when you have it. It makes me feel guilty and horrible. Though there was this one time when I seriously did not have a pencil and this person was being so annoyingly persistent and saying “Wouldn’t you have one in your pencil case? Wouldn’t you have one in your bag?” and I seriously wanted to kick them. It bugs me when people block escalators too. Though here, the right side is for standing and the left side is for walking.
Interesting post, Kelly! :)
