Life Of A Blogger: Family

lifeofablogger

Life Of A Blogger is hosted by the fabulous Jessi from Novel Heartbeat where we let people know more about our lives outside of blogging so they can get to know us better!

This week’s topic is family. My family consists of my mother, my father, my younger sister, and me.

Let’s just pretend that there’s a picture of all of us right here.

Like most Asian families, my parents are very strict. I’m sure I’ve mentioned this sometime before somewhere, but my parents need me to call home the minute I’ll be late, won’t let me go out much (even now they wouldn’t), likes to lecture my sister and I about every single thing we did wrong no matter how little and accidental the mistake was, thinks I have all the time in the world to help them when I have tons of homework and projects and other things to do (not like they care), and are obsessed with our grades.

No wonder I can’t wait to move out.

I’ve talked about my sister in a previous Life Of A Blogger post, siblings.

And then there’s me. I like reading books (obviously), meeting authors and other bloggers (where else can I find other people who understand me?), embarrassing myself (not really, but I might as well like embarrassing myself with the amount of embarrassing things I’ve done), and POKEMON. ALL THINGS POKEMON. Yes, that has to be in all caps to express my love.

What is your family like? Are they any similar to mine? I want to know!

We are VERY similar! My parents are orthodox so they expect me to stay at home till I get married and all that jazz. I love them and all but it’s hard to cooperate! :p

Well, I don’t have to worry about any of this any longer (cuz I’m all growed up ~ well, at least physically anyway) but when I was a teenager and still living at home I gotta say I had it pretty sweet. I was a fairly good kid so my Mom trusted me a lot. I never had a curfew or any of that. Not to say that I didn’t anger her at times, but for the most part I had no complaints. We didn’t live in a big city but in the country so my parents didn’t have to worry about the dangers that parents have to worry about these days, especially if their families live in big cities etc. (There are a lot of bad people out there.) I loved moving out and getting out on my own and moving to the city because I was sick of the country, but at the same time I hated to leave my Mom. We got along really well.

My family consists of my dad, mom, and an older brother. We are a pretty close-knit Italian family. We love our pasta! ( So stereotypical lol). We like doing activities together like working out in the yard, golfing, eating dinner together, or just watching a movie in the comforts of our own home. Sure, we get irritated with each other from time to time, but if we didn’t then I would be concerned.

This might sound cruel but my parents didn’t care about me at all. They gave me up when i was 6 to my grandparents and all my life i have suffered from certain issues pertaining to lack of structure and it has gotten me into a lot of trouble! i can see how your family is extreme in the other direction but just know that they do it cause they care. im a mother now so i see both sides. They mean well and just want u to be the best u can even though at times i’m sure that’s not what it feels like. :-)

I totally get the mistake thing, it happened a lot when I was younger. As my family has aged, we’ve become more chill.

My family is Persian, and my parents are divorced. Usually, they’re both very chill & let me do what I want. They are strict in the sense that I’m not allowed out at night, but beyond that, I think I have it good. I have a way younger sister who is fun to have around because I can act like a kid and people think it’s cute, not strange. Recently, my grandparents and aunt moved in to my mom’s house and with them comes some more Persian things- mainly lots of focus on looks in terms of looking good, and having the house be immaculate. But they’re new here and we’re all figuring out how to share the home, so it’s been fun too.

I know there’s that conception that Asian parents are really strict but my parents totally fall outside that. They aren’t super lenient and liberal but they aren’t super strict either. There aren’t a lot of rules in my family and I guess it works because I’m an only child so it really is just me. I can get off without doing a lot of chores and I can get off with eating all the ice cream or stuff like that. My parents do nag about grades and homework, mostly my mum who’s really hard to please. It’s frustrating to have to hear the same spiel all the time but I know she means best and she isn’t ever mean about how bad I’m doing at school. And about going out, now that I’ve gotten older and can get to places myself, my parents are pretty lenient about it as long as it isn’t late at night. Like they generally won’t allow me to do anything on school nights from Monday to Thursday and they won’t allow me to go anywhere where I have to come back home at like 2 in the morning. Which is fine by me since I like being home then anyway! :)

I have pretty cruisy parents. I was adopted so I have 2 Mums, 2 Dads plus 2 sisters & 4 brothers. All my siblings have kids. My mums are sisters so I grew up knowing both families. Now that I’m married, I include my husband and my in-laws, so my husband’s parents plus his 5 sisters & 1 brother. Only 3 of them have kids. PRETTY BIG FAMILY! Christmas is an expensive holiday in our house :)
