Life Of A Blogger: Tattoos

lifeofablogger

Life Of A Blogger is hosted by the fabulous Jessi from Novel Heartbeat where we let people know more about our lives outside of blogging so they can get to know us better!

Today’s topic is tattoos and that’s a really short and simple topic for me to talk about.

I currently don’t have any tattoos. Note the use of “currently.”

Let me explain. A little less than four months ago, I was one of those people who didn’t want any tattoos and wouldn’t ever want any tattoos. I don’t take things like tattoos lightly – once it’s on you, it’s on you forever. Yes, I’m aware that you can get rid of tattoos, but it’s very expensive and after researching more about how people get rid of tattoos, I can’t help but think it’s also a very dangerous procedure too.

Flash forward to now and I am actually thinking of maybe, just maybe, getting a tattoo. I’ve been seeing some awesome tattoos online and on people I know and I just feel inspired and fascinated by them. I am actually thinking of maybe getting a tattoo now, which is honestly scary. Don’t get me wrong, the tattoo I might get (and might never get) will most likely be very small and not noticeable. The tattoo may be on my hip, at the back of my neck, or my ankle. The thing is, you guys will never know. ;D

But that is, if I don’t become a coward and back out of getting a tattoo. Which would most likely happen. Unless I get one at an impulse.

How about you guys? Do you have any tattoos and are you thinking of getting one/more? Do you want to get any tattoos like me, but are scared to? I want to know!

Tattoos are so fascinating. Don’t get me wrong, I was terrified when I went to get mine and I’ll probably be jittery when I go to get the others I want as well. I think that’s why it’s so important to be sure of what you want. While I was nervous, I was still confident. I had a vision, it was important to me and the tattoo artist helped me bring it to fruition :)

I have several. Yeah, I’m a bad ass! LOL The thing with tattoos is that they are addictive. Some people can stick to one or two and that’s great, but with me there are so many things that I want tattooed that it became addictive. For people who don’t want to get one and then change their mind… like yourself… you will probably end up getting one in an inconspicuous spot and it’ll be delicate and I have to say I LOVE THOSE. They are always the really pretty ones! I’m going to get one like that probably on my foot but most of mine are big and bold. My favourite one is of my dogs that a fabulous artist did for me last year.

Not that you need advise from a perfect stranger but may I suggest that you please please please research your artist and not just go to any tattoo place on impulse? It will make all the difference in the world for your experience.

Oooh… and if you get one… I wanna see it. Post a pic! hehe

I don’t have a tattoo, currently, either! I do want at least two, and for me they are meaningful. I worked with an older biker woman during college, and I loved everything about her: her outlook on life, the way she lived her life, her thoughts on so many different matters. She was kind of stigmatized in our office because she had tattoos … and no one else did (at least not visible). That really bothered me, and from our conversations I learned what her tattoos signified for her. I know there are people who go get a tattoo just to have one, or under the influence, or pressured by friends, but I knew I would always want one, and I am the kind of person that places meaning in things.

I drew up a beautiful sketch of a star with all kinds of swirls and smaller stars, the idea from a tribal star tattoo I found. I envision that the swirls can go around my ankle like an anklet, but not quite touch, and the central star displayed on the outer side of my leg. I went with my friends one time to a tattoo parlor, and this is where I can echo Carrie’s advice to research your artist. I gave the guy my design, and he of course had to redraw it, but it didn’t look anything like what I had drawn, and I’m a pretty good little artiste for more abstract things like that. He was a total ass about the whole thing, and I am so glad I didn’t let my friends pressure me into just doing it and getting it then and there.

I also plan to get my sister’s little baby footprints from her certificate tattooed over my heart. She died not long after birth, and it caused over a decade of resentment and anger and hatred with my mom. We are finally in a good place, but those years of darkness are a reminder in so many ways to me, and every year that June 29 rolls around is a black day for my family. I don’t want to forget Elizabeth, and her existence has changed my mother and me, and our relationship with one another, in unspeakable ways. If I told anyone that knew us fairly well during those times, they would never believe it possible. I plan to name my daughter after her, and it will be a beautiful thing to show her when she is older.

I might also get a tattoo to memorialize my two older cousins, who tragically died in recent years (both leaving behind very small children). They were both only sons in their families, and now my oldest brother is the oldest living grandson. My cousins have all gotten memorial tattoos, a little too much for my taste, and one of the mothers is going to get a black rose for them. I want to do something simple and elegant, but don’t have many ideas.

Those are the kind of tattoos I plan on getting, and D wants a tattoo, too! Although, I know the minute the word is out that I have a tattoo, it’s going to be hell’s bells from his family. They are completely disgusted by them, and very vocal and adamant in their dislike for them. But, say la vie! I am pretty much done with them after the way they’ve treated him.

I have several. And I still want one more. They’re all in places that shoes or clothes can hide tho. Which means they’re all in places where they hurt the worst lol I also have one literary tattoo on my ribs. It’s the last words to the poem “Invictus” by William Earnest Henly, “I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.”

And don’t be scared to get them! They do cause some discomfort, but it’s not terrible. And as long as you think thoroughly about your choice, you will always love it!

I have two at the moment! the first one I got for my 18th birthday from my mom after whining for one for years before that. The second one I got last year, also for my birthday but from my boyfriend. Yeah I was scared each time but I didn’t need to be scared. It doesn’t hurt at all. Not the places mine are anyway. (Inside of the wrist and one on my upper arm.) I do plan on getting at least one more in the future! =)

I don’t have any tattoos either! Haha, I’m not even legally eligible to get them but I do want them in the future! I don’t want anything too big but I think tiny ones are REALLY cute. I spend so much time on Pinterest just scrolling through my feed and finding them! I feel like I may only get one tattoo in my life because I’m not too sure what the others would be. I don’t want to get anything just for the sake of it, I want something with meaning. So at this point, I feel like the only one I would definitely go ahead and get is one at the back of my neck with the number 7 in Roman Numerals.

I have 7 tattoos right now and plan on getting a couple more. One thing I learned from a tattoo artist is that if you fid an image that you want, keep it pinned on a wall where you will see it everyday and if after a year you still like it then go ahead and get is, since there have been so many people that dislike their tattoos after a short period of time.

The one that most people cringe at is the one that I have running down my spine, they all freak out and ask how much it hurt, oddly enough it didn’t hurt at all since I was reading a book to keep myself occupied while it was being done.

I don’t have a tattoo and I never wanted one, because I grew up with a mother who hates tattoos. This last year I’ve been slowly warming up for the idea of getting one and the more I think about it, the more confident I am I will get one. Some day :)

I personally despise the existence of needles, so no way will I ever get a tattoo. I agree that some of tattoos can be be really attractive, and have special meanings behind them. All I will say is make sure you truly love the tattoo before you get it. You love it now, but will you love it at the age of 30, 45, 60, 80?

I don’t have any tattoos right now but I’ve definitely been the type of person who always wanted one at some point in my life. Right now I have absolutely no clue what I want yet xD Like you said, it’s permanent and I want to get something that means something to me.

I had planned on getting one when I turned 18, but now a year later I still don’t have one. I’m too scared of the needles xD But I was talking with some friends on twitter and apparently it’s not like getting a shot at all so now I’m planning on getting one before the end of the year. I know I want a Looking for Alaska quote (“we need never be hopeless because we can never be irreparably broken”) on my right shoulder blade, and I have plans for something LOTR and something HP, but I’m not certain what yet.

I used to think I’d never do it, but lately I’ve been seeing such wonderful pictures of some tattoos and it makes me think maybe it wouldn’t be such a terrible idea. Problem is I’ve seen so many cute/wonderful ones, I’d never be able to choose, because I’d likely get one or two and wouldn’t want to be covered in them! Another problem-I’m afraid of needles, so I don’t know if I’d be able to get over that fear!

I know exactly what I want and I have researched into the place that I want to get it done at. The only thing stopping me right now is my parents, who I still live with. They are not fans of tattoos.
It’s not that they have said they will kick me out if I get one, but they have made their thoughts on them clear, and out of respect I am waiting until either they change their mind or I move out. :)

I have two tattoos as of right now! I plan on getting many, many more.. but I started off small. I have the three stars from the corner of the Harry Potter books on my ankle. I wanted that one for many years and it was my first tattoo. I also have a heart on the top-side of my foot. Nothing special there – just always loved hearts and thought it would be cute.

I have one. My husband wanted to surprise me with the session but thought better of it. He told me about it and gave me time to think it over. I went along with it and we each got one on our shoulder. I was a bit nervous but almost fell asleep while getting the tattoo done. It wasn’t that bad at all even though it did feel like someone was carving my back with a knife. I wouldn’t mind getting another one but looks like I will have to get one on my own. My husband isn’t willing to go through the process again.
