Till It Arrives is inspired by Jamie from The Perpetual Page-Turner’s Save the Date feature. Sometimes I read books that are not released anytime soon, but I want to share some of my feelings on the book right away, so Till It Arrives is born! (It also allows me to read books that appear later in my schedule, so that’s awesome too.) Since I don’t usually use GIFs in my reviews, I thought I’ll use plenty of GIFs to describe my feelings for the book I’m talking about in this feature!
Firebug
Author: Lish McBride
Series: Firebug #1
Genre: Young Adult, Romance, Fantasy, Humor, Horror
Release Date: September 23, 2014
Publisher: Henry Holt and Co.
Summary:
Ava is a firebug — she can start fires with her mind. Which would all be well and good if she weren’t caught in a deadly contract with the Coterie, a magical mafia. She’s one of their main hit men…and she doesn’t like it one bit. Not least because her mother’s death was ordered by Venus who is now Ava’s boss.
When Venus asks Ava to kill a family friend, Ava rebels. She knows very well that you can’t say no to the Coterie and expect to get away with it, though, so she and her friends hit the road, trying desperately to think of a way out of the mess they find themselves in. Preferably keeping the murder to a minimum.
First Sentence: Ryan slammed the book shut and tipped his head back, sprawling on the bench and claiming it as his own.
I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for a honest review. All opinions are my own and I was not compensated for this review.
A Tale of Info-Dump:
When I first saw that there was a book about a hit man who can set people on fire by will:
When I was met with TONS of info-dump:
When nothing interesting happens in the first half of the book:
When even more info-dump happened:
When I reached the ending that had a very small cliffhanger:
To sum the book up in a GIF:
This makes me very sad. I wanted to love this book. I’ll be giving it a go soon and hopefully I’ll like it a bit more. We shall see.

Love the Gifs can’t wait for this book too. <3
Great cover, and it certainly sounds interesting. I hate to be disappointed like this, but you summed up the feeling well, lol.
GIFs are the best. :) It’s too bad that you didn’t like the book, since it certainly sounds interesting. ALSO the premise could be a what-if-scenario from the Assassin’s Curse series. The What-If-Sam-and-Celaena-Ran-Away-From-The-Assassin’s-Keep-Instead-Of-Rightfully-Buying-Themselves-Out scenario.
The cover is cool, but I am not surprised that you weren’t wowed by this book. The summary failed to grabbed me and that is never a good sign. Why would any one knowingly work for their mother’s killer?
Hm, I’m really surprized that you were not all into the book. It sounds interesting, but I was too decived many times…
This is a new concept to me. And *cringe* info dump. I cannot stand those. Thanks for the warning heh
Love the GIFs. I can’t wait to read this too. <3
The emotions. I’m looking forward to this!
Where do you find all of these gifs? I’m always looking for gifs for Tumblr/blog and I can’t find a lot of good ones.
Sounds like I might want to check out this book.
I was hoping something for this book and your review makes me assume more that it would be good :( Thank you for your review!! :) You’ve helped me a lot.
I love the cover and it sounds like a good book to read and I have never read any of the author’s books so it would be nice to read a book by a different author to switch things up. :)
