and she’s determined to make them come true. But between maintaining her college scholarship and working at the local day care to support herself, dating’s the last thing on her mind. Then she moves into a new apartment and meets the taciturn yet irresistible guy in 1B…
Daniel Tyler has grown up too fast. Becoming a single dad at twenty turned his life upside down — and brought him heartache he can’t risk again. Now, as he raises his four-year-old son while balancing a full-time construction management job and night classes, the last thing he wants is for four noisy students to move into the apartment upstairs. But one night, Nadia’s and Ty’s paths cross, and soon they can’t stay away from each other.
The timing is all wrong — but love happens when it happens. And you can’t know what you truly need until you stand to lose it.

I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for a honest review. All opinions are my own and I was not compensated for this review.
My Review:
I was extremely excited to start I Want It That Way. Not only is I Want It That Way written by Ann Aguirre, the author who wrote one of the books I really enjoyed, but I Want It That Way also had an unique premise. I’ve never seen a New Adult book that had a single dad as the hero. Adult books, sure, but New Adult? Nope. Before starting I Want It That Way, I was desperately hoping that I Want It That Way would be the book that makes me adore New Adult. That sadly didn’t happen.
The first time I saw Ty, I fell down the stairs and tore my pants.
A superstitious person might call that an omen. He had nothing to do with it, of course; that was just a quirk of timing. (ARC 13)
I Want It That Way started off very strong. It grabbed my attention immediately and I enjoyed reading Nadia’s voice. The beginning of I Want It That Way also gave me high hopes for the book. You can ask any of my friends – they asked me how I Want It That Way was when I was currently reading the first couple of pages and I answered with a very excited “I’m really enjoying this one!”
Then came the part where the attraction between Nadia and Ty started to bloom. From then on, I was bored with the entire book. I was more interested in the minor characters’ (soon to become main characters in the next two books in the series) side-stories than the actual main characters’ story. This feeling lasted right to the very end of the book. Honestly, the only reason why I didn’t DNF I Want It That Way like how I wanted to and forced myself to finish it was because I liked Ann Aguirre’s other books too much not to do so.
“We could’ve been so good together,” I whispered to the night.
Leaving if only behind, I squared my shoulders and went silently inside. (ARC 92)
I think the main reason why I was bored with I Want It That Way, specifically Nadia and Ty’s story, was because the romance developed a little too fast for me. Nadia and Ty’s attraction started off slow, but then it got hot and heavy, fast. From then on, I couldn’t really cheer for them because I just didn’t get their relationship or connected with it. Yeah, sure, I did hope their relationship will last until the very end because I don’t like sad endings, but I wasn’t personally invested in it or anything.
Overall, I Want It That Way was pretty disappointing. I Want It That Way did not turn out to be the book that makes me love New Adult nor did it impress me much in any way. I might read the next two books in the 2B trilogy, especially the sequel to I Want It That Way because I do want to see what happened to a side character, Lauren.
Oh, too bad you didn’t enjoy this one. I really liked the idea of this, but now I’m not sure if I’ll ever read it.
Sadly, I feel like NA books is becoming boring and too similar.

Good review. Too bad it was a miss. In all honesty the summery didn’t sound too interesting.
I had no idea Ann Aguirre had written a NA! I enjoyed her Razorland series enough that my interest was piqued, despite the book being, you know, NA. Too bad it wasn’t a enjoyable or satisfying read. I might give it a once-over as well, because, like you said, its Ann Aguirre.
Too bad you didn’t like the book. I didn’t get very interested, New Adult isn’t one of my favorite genres, and if there’s one thing that I hate in books is when the romance happens way too fast.

I got an ARC copy of this book for review as well. I’ve never read any New Adult before, so I’m pretty nervous to jump into the genre. I really like Ann Aguirre, but this book seems kind of out of place considering she typically writes action books.

I haven’t read anything by Aguirre, but I was curious about this book, too, because of the single dad aspect. But I’m thinking I will pass. Sorry this wasn’t a hit.

Yeah this one drove me insane at times. I loved the bits without the romance tbh. Nadia’s sweeping declarations reeked of instalove. I honestly don’t know what to rate it because it was both enjoyable and irritating lol. I did get book two tho because I’m invested now whether I like it or not!

I haven’t read anything by Ann Aguirre but I like this kind of book. Too bad you didn’t like it. And this cover is awful!!!
I always have a problem with the romance moving too fast in NA. I’ve only read one NA book that I liked. It seems that this one won’t be added to my TBR.
I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy this one, I’ve heard A LOT of negative reviews though, all about the insta-attraction of the two main characters happening way to fast so I don’t think I’ll be picking up this one! I hope that if you choose to continue to read the series you’ll enjoy the rest though, happy reading! :)

Sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy the book! The only New Adult books I’ve read are ones by Abbi Glines. Personally, in any book, I actually enjoy reading the build up to the relationship, where there are cute reactions and playful banter, more than the actual relationship– unless I ship them a lot, then I love every page where they’re together. Anyways, I hope the second book is better and that you enjoy!
Aw, sucks it was disappointing, because those excerpts sounded like they had heaps of personality! But sacrificing the actual real building of the relationship? Not so fun. Plus being bored in a book?! That’s the worst! What’s the point of reading it, right? >_<

Very quick romance is almost as bad as insta-romance. I thought that the blurb was really well done, it piqued my interest. I could almost imagine the story, the chemistry and romance, float right off the screen from the blurb :D I don’t know why. I think a gradual relationship, one where we can see why, would be the best. I don’t think I will be reading this one, BUT if the next few books are good (i will be waiting for your reviews hehe..) then maybe ill start the series. :)
Did the title not remind you of the song “I want it that way”? Same name. I myself had never heard of a single dad protagonist (we have to give credit to that out-of-the-box idea.) Sorry you didn’t like it.
Definetly I am going to try to read this one it sounds cool.
Just added it on my TBR. So excited to read it! :)
Well this book does sound cool. Might have to give it a try.
The story is a little bit cliche but I’m really looking forward to reading this
I’ve never read anything by Ann Aguirre. I think I might try this one out.
I’ve been seeing this all over GR lately!
“love happens when it happens” yes <3 and i want this book soooo much.
Totally different from the Enclave series (which I absolutely loved btw) but she hasn’t let me down yet..I’ll give it a read!!!
Thank you for your review! I wanted to read this but i think it’s boring. and from what you wrote, it’s disappointing :3 Thank youu!
I haven’t read any of Ann Aguirre’s books yet, but I’ve heard very highly of them. I actually really enjoy NA though, so I think I’ll give this one a try sometime. The premise sounds pretty good. I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t like it! I hope you enjoy the sequel more if you decide to read it!
