Patience My Darling: February 2015

patiencemydarling

Patience My Darling is a new feature I’m starting where I highlight books I’m extremely interested in reading that will be releasing sometime this month. I’ll also be highlighting some books I’ve already read since most people might not have read them yet.

February, February, February, aka the month of Valentine’s Day. There are many books I’m looking forward to seeing on shelves this month.

February 3rd
shutter illmeetyouthere

Shutter by Courtney Alameda
First of all, THAT COVER. I also love any kind of horror stories, so Shutter is right up my ally. Plus, I heard that there would be some romance in the book too, so that’s a plus.

I’ll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios
I’ve only read half of Heather Demetrios’ Something Real and really enjoyed it. (The only reason why I didn’t finish reading it was because school and exams came up and then I started a new book a week later.) However, I’ll Meet You There disappointed me. I wasn’t pulled in at the beginning, but the last third or so of the book was gorgeous.

February 10th
monstrous redqueen theglassarrow thelasttimewesaygoodbye myheartandotherblackholes

Monstrous by MarcyKate Connolly
Even though I don’t read Middle Grade often, I couldn’t help but be intrigued by Monstrous. I mean, girls disappearing without a trace, a girl with wings and bolts in her neck, and evil magic that haunts the land? Give me this book now.

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
I was extremely excited for Red Queen – I mean, just look at that cover! I couldn’t wait to read once I got my hands on it, but to my disappointment, Red Queen greatly disappointed me. My full review will be up this month near its release date.

The Glass Arrow by Kristen Simmons
I was very excited for this one; I am obsessed with anything to do with arrows, crossbows, archers, bowmen, etc. However, I am sad to say that I’m really disappointed with this one. My review will go up this month near its release date.

The Last Time We Say Goodbye by Cynthia Hand
I’ve only read Cynthia Hand’s Unearthly and really enjoyed it. Although The Last Time We Say Goodbye is contemporary and nothing contains supernatural in it, I do expect Cynthia Hand to tug on my heartstrings.

My Heart and Other Black Holes by Jasmine Warga
Not only is My Heart and Other Black Holes written by a diverse author, but My Heart and Other Black Holes is also about an important topic in life: Suicide. Which is probably why I teared up while reading the book. Although I lost connection with the main character halfway through the book, I’ll definitely still recommend My Heart and Other Black Holes.

February 24th
thesineatersdaughter shadowstudy awickedthing adarkershadeofmagic

The Sin Eater’s Daughter by Melinda Salisbury
Okay, fine, I’ll admit it: I’m excited for The Sin Eater’s Daughter because just look at that cover! I’ve heard mixed things about it though, so I’m a bit worried about that.

Shadow Study by Maria V. Snyder
IT’S THE SEQUEL TO MARIA V. SNYDER’S Study SERIES. Enough said. But honestly, if you haven’t started this series yet, what on Earth are you waiting for?

A Wicked Thing by Rhiannon Thomas
Not only is A Wicked Thing a fairytale retelling, but it’s also unique. I can’t name a Sleeping Beauty retelling that tells you what happened after the fairytale.

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab
EEEEEEEEEEEEE. There are no words to describe my excitement for this one.

There are so many fabulous books releasing this month! What February 2015 releases are you most excited to read?

And psst, as if you haven’t noticed yet, make sure you enter the giveaway down below, where you can win ANY February 2015 book of your choice!

Oh dear, how can it be that such a short month has so many awesome book releasing??

I have a few preordered from before my book buying ban, so I think from the ones that I didn’t preorder before that… either I’ll Meet You There, Red Queen or A Darker Shade of Magic, but I feel that I’d probably go for ADSOM because I read the sampler and I’M DYING TO READ THE FULL BOOK!!

Thank you so much for the giveaway Kelly, and for making it open international!

I’m really looking forward to Karen Memory by Elizabeth Bear, which is coming out Feb 3rd!

If I were to win, I’d probably ask you to pick something (if you’d be up for that of course!)

At first I though A Wicked Thing’s synopsis said it was a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Then I realized it was about the Sleeping Beauty and I felt like an idiot. Lately, I’ve been interested in fairy tale retellings, and I already added this book to my Goodreads’ To Read Shelf, so, let’s see how it goes!

Yeah I wish Red Queen was more original. I gave it a 3.5 stars. I do not think it’s a bad book, but it could have improved. What bothered me is the lack of character development, basic world building, and unoriginal plot. It’s like a bunch of fantasy/dystopian books mixed into 1 book. I’m also looking forward to Sin Eater’s Daughter! I’ve been avoiding reviews so I’m not sure whether there’s more people who like it vs. people who did not like it. I’m also excited for Shutter since I love horror books! I love to scare myself haha. I have I’ll Meet You There and I’ve been hearing good things about it. That’ll probably one of my next reads this month.
