Sublime
Author: Christina Lauren
Series: None
Genre: Young Adult, Romance, Fantasy
Release Date: October 14, 2014
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
Summary:
When Lucy walks out of a frozen forest, wearing only a silk dress and sandals, she isn’t sure how she got there. But when she sees Colin, she knows for sure that she’s here for him.
Colin has never been captivated by a girl the way he is by Lucy. With each passing day their lives intertwine, and even as Lucy begins to remember more of her life — and her death — neither of them is willing to give up what they have, no matter how impossible it is. And when Colin finds a way to physically be with Lucy, taking himself to the brink of death where his reality and Lucy’s overlap, the joy of being together for those brief stolen moments drowns out everything in the outside world. But some lines weren’t meant to be crossed…
First Sentence: The girl is bent into odd angles when she wakes.
I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for a honest review. All opinions are my own and I was not compensated for this review.
My Review:
I very very rarely write DNF reviews. In fact, this one would be my third DNF review that I’ve ever written. I’ve tried and tried with this one – I started Sublime back in October 2014, hoping that it’ll be amazing since I enjoyed Christina and Lauren’s adult books. To my surprise, I dropped Sublime after reading it for ten minutes, picked it up again five days later, only to promptly drop it again.
To see why, you’ll have to take this quick four question quiz I mentally compiled while reading.
The Quiz
1) You meet a girl you don’t know and she walks up to you. She says, “I think I’m here for you” and promptly runs away before you can say anything. Do you:
a) Run away.
b) Run away and get a restraining order asap.
c) Dream and daydream about the gorgeous colors of her eyes.
2) You try leaving the school camp grounds, but you keep finding yourself getting “snapped” back to the school grounds every time you try to leave. Do you:
a) Freak out and then do some more freaking out.
b) Investigate and try to get to the bottom of this mystery. Why does this keep happening?
c) Think what is…oh look, there’s [insert the love interest’s name here]! -stares at him/her-
3) You have the above problem AND you later find out that you’re unable to throw away the clothes you woke up wearing. You:
a) Curl into a ball and cry for days. Why do you have to deal with all of this? Life is hard enough!
b) Keep searching for some answers. There must be a logical explanation somewhere!
c) Think who cares – I want to know more about [insert the love interest’s name here]! Is it so dangerous to want to know someone else without first knowing all about yourself?* If so, too bad.
4) You like your love interest’s blondish-white (more white than blond) hair color. You happen to talk to your best friend one day and the topic of the love interest came up. Your best friend mentions that her hair color is brown, not blondish-white. You:
a) Immediately think you need to get your eyes checked.
b) Immediately think your best friend needs to get his/her eyes checked.
c) Think awww, I like seeing him/her differently!
If you pick all “c”‘s for this pop quiz, you basically think like the heroine and hero in Sublime and this book would be the perfect book for you! If you’re turned off of this like I am, I kindly suggest you avoid this book, especially since all this happened within the first thirty pages or so.
There are also tons of inconsistencies in the first few pages (seriously guys, my notes were FULL with rants on how impossible this all was) along with tons of telling, but no showing.
Overall, Sublime is definitely and sadly not the book for me.
*that is an actual quote from the book.
Bwahahahaa. I read this book last year and did not like it at all. Nothing about it screamed “romantic” or “beautiful” or whatever. Creepy and confusing. Seriously, I consider myself a decently astute reader, but I had no idea what was going on. Literally none of my forty thousand questions were answered. Nothing happens. The romance is just a bunch of insta-love and stupid decisions – but not in a realistic way. To put it lightly, I was not a fan. Sooo… don’t feel bad about DNFing, because you’re not missing out, Kelly!

This book was beyond terrible. I read an e-ARC of this one and read it so quickly despite how horrible it read. There was an insurmountable amount of insta-love and poorly written descriptions, but I just had to keep reading. The ending was just as laughable as the opening of this book. At least you’re done with this one now!

Hahaha this was a fun review! I’m glad to say that I didn’t pick C at all. (I went with the freaking out option) Thanks for saving me from this one!

I didn’t get any C’s. Too bad. Thanks for the warning about this one. It feels awful to DNF – I most recently DNF’d All the Bright Places and feel the urge to finish it even though it pains me.
omg! i remember seeing this cover…i thought it looked interesting and the girl creepy but too bad it’s really…that bad…so never mind then.
Oh…well it’s safe to say this is a pass. I did love the quiz though, lol. I hate DNFing so it’s always nice to have some warning not to start one.

While reading over your review, I answered mostly A’s and B’s. So I guess this book isn’t for me…I would read over the C’s answers and knew immediately that that wouldn’t be my answer at all and I completely understood why this book was a turn-off for you. It would be for me too. Kind of like the book I’m reading now that I started about three weeks ago and am only a quarter into it. But I’m not giving up. I can’t…I definitely won’t be reading Sublime though.
I love that you made this a quiz! What a perfect way to describe why you didnt finish the book! I like reading DNF reviews because they usually end up being really funny. Glad to know I should skip this book! <3 Bee @ Bee Reads Books

I DNF’d this a while ago and still feel guilty when I do that with books! I liked this cover so I think that’s what tricked me into thinking I’d really like this!
LOL! Thanks- that’s definitely not a book for me, and I appreciate knowing that ahead of time. :D

All of the reviews for this one… I mean, it has been rough to read. Which shocks me, because just the synopsis alone sounds good. And that cover is gorgeous! But, I think I am just going to pass this one up. Better for me, and I hate writing negative reviews!
