ARC Book Review: End of Days – Susan Ee

endofdaysWorld After
Author: Susan Ee
Series: Penryn & the End of Days #3
Genre: Young Adult, Romance, Fantasy, Dystopian
Release Date: May 12, 2015
Publisher: Skyscape

Goodreads | Amazon | TBD

Summary:

End of Days is the explosive conclusion to Susan Ee’s bestselling Penryn & the End of Days trilogy.
After a daring escape from the angels, Penryn and Raffe are on the run. They’re both desperate to find a doctor who can reverse the twisted changes inflicted by the angels on Raffe and Penryn’s sister. As they set off in search of answers, a startling revelation about Raffe’s past unleashes dark forces that threaten them all.
When the angels release an apocalyptic nightmare onto humans, both sides are set on a path toward war. As unlikely alliances form and strategies shift, who will emerge victorious? Forced to pick sides in the fight for control of the earthly realm, Raffe and Penryn must choose: Their own kind, or each other?

First Sentence: Everywhere we fly, people scatter below us.

I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for a honest review. All opinions are my own and I was not compensated for this review.

My Review:

I went into End of Days with very high anticipation. After the sort-of cliffhanger way World After ended, I just need moreeee. I wanted more Penryn (obviously), more Raffe (duh), and much more Paige. I didn’t know how End of Days would end the series and drove myself crazy speculating about it. Will Susan Ee be cruel and give us a sad ending or would she be kind and give us a happy ending? In the end, I’m happy how Susan Ee decided to end things, although I do wish there was more books in the series of course.

I stumble backward.
I try to turn and run, but the uneven ground trips me, and I’m falling onto the sharp glass and shards of bone.
…
I’m falling.
Falling. (ARC 40)

In End of Days, there were much more Raffe and Penryn moments that I had desperately wanted after reading World After. We get to see them flying together (aka Raffe flying while holding Penryn in his arms and just, swooooons all around), working towards their goals together, and -whispers- kissing. A lot more kissing.

There was more Pooky Bear in End of Days too. In fact, Pooky Bear plays a huge role in End of Days – I can’t say anything more because it’ll be a spoiler, but expect to see a lot more of Pooky Bear being Pooky Bear in End of Days.

He shakes his head sadly at me. “These are the rules we live by. We are soldiers, Penryn. Legendary warriors willing to make legendary sacrifices. We do not ask. We do not choose.” (ARC 124)

And that ending! The ending of End of Days made me swoon, smile like a crazy fool, and desperately wish for more. I wanted the ending to last longer so I could bask in more Penryn and Raffe moments, including more Penryn’s mother moments since she is a genius.

Overall, I am so sad that the series is over – I just want MORE. Hopefully Susan Ee would start a spin-off series exploring more of the aftermath of End of Days through Paige’s point of view. It’ll be more powerful if Susan Ee decided to write a spin-off series told from Penryn’s mother point of view.

Nice! Hearing lots of good things about this one! Was crushed when my copy came early and I still can’t read it with the review books I have left! But soon! Very soon! Of course then I have to decide between like 20 must have it now reads that I am dying to read! I might need to get my TBR Jar going soon and then just have those specific titles in it for awhile, just to make my life easier! LOL! Great review! Glad to hear that this one ended in a way that left you happy! Series finales always scare me! For good reason too! LOL!

Woah Kelly! This is definitely the first time I’ve read you want MORE after a series has ended. I remember when I first read Angelfall and World After and thought you should read this series because it was awesome, but I never knew or guessed this series would affect you so much. And you even swooned for the main characters! I’m glad there’s kissing though. If I remember correctly, there was hardly any of THAT in books 1 & 2. But I so want this book! I need to know how it ends. Though it wouldn’t be bad for me to rehash what happened since my memory’s bad… :)

Love it when authors created action-packed but character driven series! And it’s awesome you still want more in the series, it shows how wonderfully crafted the world was :)

I also loved this book! All the swoons! All the action! But I really wished we had more books in the series though. I liked the ending, but there are lots of things that could still be explored.

This is actually the last book I read! I was also really nervous about how Susan would decide to end it, specially since it was “The Apocalypse”.

I lived for the Raffe/Penryn moments, I love them.
As much as I wanted more, I’m satisfied with the way things ended and I’m glad the author didn’t expand the series.

    Awesome review!

I loved Angelfall much more than the rest of the series, World After was awesome as well – End of Days had a good ending, but it wasn’t that epic for me :( I will miss pookie bear though. It’s still an amazing series overall! Wonderful review :)

It’s always so good when the end of the series comes and it has ended well and in a way you can be on terms with. It seems like when I start the series I am in for a lot of good books ahead and lovely characters.

This isn’t a series I’ve read. Based on your enthusiasm for it, though, I plan to check it out.

I just finished reading this. I agree that I just wanted MORE. Also, who would have thought I would develop so much sympathy for a certain angel that I won’t name in case of spoilers.
