Today I’m reviewing a book you’ve probably can’t wait to get your hands on: DAUGHTER OF DEEP SILENCE by Carrie Ryan as part of the DAUGHTER OF DEEP SILENCE blog tour! This book is dark, vengeful, and will definitely leave you on the edge of your seat.

What I Liked
I love the entire premise of Daughter of Deep Silence. I enjoy reading about revenge plots and Daughter of Deep Silence has the ultimate revenge plot: Betrayed terribly by her first love, the main character vows to get revenge. I’ve also heard that Daughter of Deep Silence was similar to the television show Revenge, a show that I’ve always wanted to watch but just didn’t have time to because of a horrifying creation called school. Add the fact that Daughter of Deep Silence is like the television show Revenge and Daughter of Deep Silence sounds like the perfect read for me.

I also liked – not necessarily loved – how Carrie Ryan ended Daughter of Deep Silence. The ending for Daughter of Deep Silence wasn’t a one-hundred percent solid happy ending as it left just a little to the imagination and I was okay with that. At the same time, however, I wanted a completely solid ending so I don’t have to wonder hey, what happens next? Is the ending I’m imagining what Carrie Ryan wanted readers to picture? I need some answers!
What I Didn’t Like
I couldn’t connect with Frances at all in the beginning of the book. The reason why I couldn’t connect with her at all is because in the first several chapters, Frances was telling us what was happening more than showing us what was happening. I know it would be hard to show us that Frances was now alone after the Persephone incident compared to just telling us that she was now all alone, but at the same time, telling us that she was now all alone instead of showing it made Frances’ claims feel awkward and fake. It wasn’t until later into Daughter of Deep Silence that I connected with Frances and the book.
“It’s the only way to keep you safe.” He pushes the ring toward me. “It’s the only way to figure out who did this and make them pay.” (33)
Sometimes, I also found small parts of the book too far-fetched. For example – don’t worry, this isn’t a spoiler because it’s mentioned in the summary of the book – Frances takes over Libby’s identity. How? Well, Libby’s father suggested it. Um, WHAT? I have a hard time believing that a father mourning over his child’s death would suggest such a thing just to find some answers. I get that the mourning father is angry, but to go that far just to find some answers is just unbelievable to me, especially so soon after your real father’s death.
Overall
If you’re a fan of the television show Revenge, I highly recommend you pick up Daughter of Deep Silence now! Speaking of Revenge, I’ll definitely be watching it since Daughter of Deep Silence has made me even more intrigued about it.
Every once in a while I enjoy reading books that don’t have a straight clear cut ending. To me, it’s a gentle reminder that everything doesn’t always have a perfect ending. Awesome review!
I am more likely to enjoy a book without a clear cut ending if I know ahead of time that’s how it’ll be, so I’m glad you mentioned that. I’ve preordered a copy of the book already (check out the awesome preorder campaign on her website!), can’t wait to read it.

You DEFINITELY should watch Revenge. Like ASAP! There are some up and down moments, speedy and slow moments, but overall I enjoy the show a lot. Though I am a season behind, but I’ll definitely be catching up as soon as I can. And my guess for what I think your rating for this book was is around 3-3.5…Since it feels like you both enjoyed and had issues with some stuff. I can’t blame you for being confused about the father asking that girl to take the identity of his dead daughter though. Even that is confusing to me. I’m not sure if I’ll be reading Daughter of Deep Silence, but I’ll be keeping an eye out for other reviews. As of now, I’m still not sure… :/

I just finished reading a sample of this book and I’m hooked already. I’m a fan of the show Revenge and revenge plot books, so I’ll definitely be picking this up when it releases. Great little review by the way. I was wondering what your thoughts would be on this one. :)
This one does sound like a decent book but not for me. I am a character driven reader so I really do need to be able to connect with the characters right away. And it sounds like this one could be a bit overly dramatic at times.

I haven’t seen Revenge either (THERE’S NOT ENOUGH TIIIIIME) but I’m so intrigued by this one! It sounds like such a cool premise, and I already know I love Carrie Ryan’s writing. I can totally see your problem with the impersonation, though. I know that everyone grieves in their own way, but that is just wayyyyy too out there.

This definitely sounds like one for me, pretty much throw in water to most books and it’ll appeal to some part of me. But I really like the idea of this book something a little different from my normal choices one for the TBR pile without a doubt.

Yes just reading from the synopsis it immediately reminded me of the tv show Revenge. Which I have watched 2 seasons of it with my sister who is very fond of doing those marathon thing. That show has a lot and I mean a lot of twist and turns that were mind boggling….but i enjoyed that show. So I hope I get to find time in the near future to read this one.

Comparing it to Revenge totally made it for me… I now have to read this book :) I do like endings that leave something to the imagination, but I understand it is not always what we are looking for as readers….
