Summary:
Genevieve McInnes is locked behind the fortified walls of McHugh Keep, captive of a cruel laird who takes great pleasure in ruining her for any other man. Yet when Bowen Montgomery storms the gates on a mission of clan warfare, Genevieve finds that her spirit is bent but not broken. Still, her path toward freedom remains uncertain. Unable to bear the shame of returning to a family that believes her dead or to abandon others at the keep to an imposing new laird, Genevieve opts for the peaceful life of an abbess. But Bowen’s rugged sensuality stirs something deep inside her that longs to be awakened by his patient, gentle caress – something warm, wicked, and tempting.
Bowen seizes his enemy’s keep, unprepared for the brooding and reclusive woman who captures his heart. He’s enchanted by her fierce determination, her unusual beauty, and her quiet, unfailing strength. But wooing her will take more than a seasoned seducer’s skill. For loving Genevieve, he discovers, means giving her back the freedom that was stolen from her – even if it means losing her forever.
First Sentence: “Do you ever wish but for a moment to go back in time?” Genevieve McInnis whispered as she stood in the window of the tiny tower room that had been appointed to her more than a year past.

My Review:
Every time I read one of Maya Bank’s books, I know that there is at least a 65% chance that her book will make me cry. Highlander Most Wanted was not an exception. Right from the very first pages, Maya Banks managed to make me tear up. Highlander Most Wanted was full of emotion, loss, hope, and most of all, courage.
We first met Genevieve in Never Seduce A Scot, the first book in Maya Banks’ The Montgomerys and Armstrongs series. Genevieve was mysterious, secretive, and only appeared once, but she played an important role in Never Seduce A Scot.
In Highlander Most Wanted, the second book in Maya Banks’ The Montgomerys and Armstrongs series, we learned about the horrors Genevieve faced living in the McHugh clan under the control of Ian McHugh. When she mentioned a summary of what she faced in one short paragraph, I couldn’t help wincing in dismay. It’s not easy to make me feel that way when I hear about the harsh realities of the world – I’m obsessed with Criminal Minds and I watch serial killer documentaries – but for Maya Banks to make me flinch like that and Genevieve to survive such dire circumstances, but never be truly broken makes me admire her greatly. Genevieve is just such a strong person. In fact, she’s more than a strong person; I don’t think there is such a word to describe her. To face what she faced and not break under her captor’s control is amazing.
Like I said earlier, Highlander Most Wanted made me feel so many emotions. I felt deeply sorry for Genevieve because of what she had to go through. I understood her position on why she didn’t want to see her parents again and her worries on why Bowen would want her after she was used. I cried for her and smiled with tears in my eyes when she finally found some happiness. I really connected and felt for her.
Unlike Never Seduce A Scot, I felt that the pacing throughout Highlander Most Wanted is a bit slow. There truthfully wasn’t much going on besides drama in the McHugh clan, Genevieve and Bowen’s growing relationship, and what happens afterwards after we fully learned about Genevieve’s situation.
The only problem I had with Highlander Most Wanted was it left the problem with the McHugh clan unresolved. Maybe Maya Banks is saving it for the next book, I don’t know, but I was expecting some answers.
I would highly recommend Highlander Most Wanted to people who love reading historical romances. Sure, Highlander Most Wanted in general is similar to most historical romances out there, but the way Maya Banks writes and makes you feel is overall different from all the other historical romances I have read out there.
I haven’t read any of Maya Banks books yet because I’m not big on Historical Romances. I’ll check the series out. Great review! Thanks!
You’ll definitely love the books Karina! :D
