Series Summary:

Don’t miss this spectacular new series that will steal your heart and haunt your dreams, Welcome to Shadow Falls camp, nestled deep in the woods of a town called Fallen…
One night Kylie Galen finds herself at the wrong party, with the wrong people, and it changes her life forever. Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls – a camp for troubled teens, and within hours of arriving, it becomes painfully clear that her fellow campers aren’t just “troubled.” Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapshifters, witches and fairies train side by side – learning to harness their powers, control their magic and live in the normal world.
Kylie’s never felt normal, but surely she doesn’t belong here with a bunch of paranormal freaks either. Or does she? They insist Kylie is one of them, and that she was brought here for a reason. As if life wasn’t complicated enough, enter Derek and Lucas. Derek’s a half-fae who’s determined to be her boyfriend, and Lucas is a smokin’ hot werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past. Both Derek and Lucas couldn’t be more different, but they both have a powerful hold on her heart.
Even though Kylie feels deeply uncertain about everything, one thing is becoming painfully clear – Shadow Falls is exactly where she belongs… (Taken from Goodreads)

Judge A Series By Its Covers:
The covers of the Shadow Falls series is really the only good thing about the series in my opinion. In fact, I will still buy the entire Shadow Falls series even after reading every book and not being impressed with it because of the covers alone. The covers of the Shadow Falls series is shiny and foily with the best shades of color ever. It may not look like it in the images above, but wait until you have the actual books in your hands.

What I Liked:

  •  The Shadow Falls series is entertaining and a mostly engaging series to read about with the exception of Whispers at Moonrise, which dragged on a bit. (This is just my opinion though.)

What I Didn’t Like:

  •  When I read books, I’m mostly okay with “slut-shaming,” if it doesn’t appear much. The Shadow Falls series makes me notice it, a lot, especially in the first two books. Any girl characters the main character Kylie doesn’t like? Yeah, she’s immediately portrayed as a slut.
  •  I’m not saying this is a bad thing or a good thing; I just think that this has to be out there: the Shadow Falls series gives the overall message that sex is bad. Or at least, wait until you’re old to have sex. Right from the first book, Born at Midnight, Kylie’s best friend treated sex as something special…until she slept with her boyfriend. Then they broke up and she slept with other guys. Then got pregnant. Overall message? Sex is bad. Not to mention all the sex pamphlet talk in the other four books.
  •  There’s a love triangle. That lasted for all five books. Yeah, I know.
  •  Kylie is the Mary Sue. Everyone knows her, loves her, is dedicated to helping her. She’s a chameleon, a protector, and a holy warrior, a combination of three very very very very rare supernaturals. For more details, check out my review of Chosen at Nightfall. Excuse me while I gag.

Do I Recommend It?
No. No no no. Don’t be fooled by the covers like me. There are tons of better books out there.

Favorite Book in the Series:

  •  Taken at Dusk, which I read a long time ago. All I remember is that it was a fun read and the cover is orange, my favorite color ever.

Favorite Character(s):

  •  In the end, my favorite character in the Shadow Falls series is Holiday. She’s nice, practical, helpful, and friendly. Holiday is always there for Kylie, even if she had her own problems. (But of course, everyone is always there for Kylie, after all, she’s a Mary Sue.)

Effortlessly Quotable:

  •  Quotes from Born at Midnight, Awake at Dawn, Taken at Dusk, and Whispers at Moonrise soon to come.
  •  “Sadly, there are no good quotes in Chosen at Nightfall.

I’ve been wondering whether or not to read this series, because I’ve seen these books everywhere. From Barnes & Noble to Walmart. And also, like you said, the covers are so beautiful. There the kind of covers that are so much better in person.
The only reason I never got any of them was a saw a Goodreads discussion saying how much “Slut-Shaming” There was. I don’t like that, at all, it just really angers me.
Besides that, this series looked good, but I’m going to take your advice and not read this series. I can’t stand Mary Sue. There aren’t many of them out there, but I still can’t stand them.
    Great series review :D

      Thank you Kimberly! (:
Yeah, the amount of slut-shaming is horrible. Anyone Kylie doesn’t like? That makes them an automatic slut.
And my goodness, Kylie is the worse Mary Sue I’ve ever read about, even worse than Bella. Ugh. :l

Haha, thanks for warning me. I’m already reading so many series that I will cross this one of my list. A love-triangle that is spread over the complete series? No thanks! Such a shame, because the covers are gorgeous indeed.

The covers are the only reason why I read this series. I wanted to stroke it. :P
And yeah, that love triangle…and the way it ended? Bleh.

First of all I love your review. I actually liked the first book (it’s the only one I read) and I was looking forward to reading the rest…but now? A love triangle lasting for all five books? Excessive much? Makes me a bit worried….
But, of course, I fell in love with the covers….ahhh. Little ol me, judging a book by its cover. Hummm..to finish not to finish, that is the question.

      Thank you Jackie! (:
Yeah, the love triangle exists throughout the series and the way it ended? It makes me want to rip something.
And the covers are also my downfall too. Sucks to be us. ):

Aww I’m sorry you didn’t like this series. I’m addicted to this series! Granted I’ve only read books 1 -3, but I’m really enjoying it and you’re right, those covers are gorgeous. The orange one is also my favourtie.

But your also right about the love triangle, it is getting incredibly annoying and I hate how easy it is for Kylie to bounce between Lucas and Derek. And then to feel guilty about it yet she still doesn’t choose just one. It’s frustrating.

Although I’m enjoying the storyline a lot and I love how much is going on. This series is definitely a hit for me. But I have seen a lot of people that don’t like it.

I know! I can fawn all over Taken at Dusk everyday. I love that shade of orange! <3
The love triangle lasts until the fifth book and the way it ended was SO disappointing. It's like, I read all five books for this?
I’m glad that this series is a hit for you, it was a hit for me too at the beginning until I actually thought about it. xD

I really loved this series! I read the first page of the first book in line at my local bookstore while disappointed I couldn’t find. Book for myself and decided to give it a try.. Did not regret it even a little bit!
