Series Overview: The Revenants Trilogy – Amy Plum

dieforme   until   ifishoulddie

Series: Die For Me, Until I Die, If I Should Die
Author: Amy Plum
Series: Revenants
Genre: Young Adult, Romance, Fantasy
Publisher: HarperTeen
Average Series Rating:

two
Series Summary:

In the City of Lights, two star-crossed lovers battle a fate that is destined to tear them apart again and again for eternity.
When Kate Mercier’s parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her life – and memories – behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent.
Mysterious, charming, and devastatingly handsome, Vincent threatens to melt the ice around Kate’s guarded heart with just his smile. As she begins to fall in love with Vincent, Kate discovers that he’s a revenant – an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save the lives of others. Vincent and those like him are bound in a centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again. (Taken from Goodreads)

Judge A Series By Its Covers:
I absolutely love the covers of Die For Me and Until I Die. I love the swirls, the scene, the colors, and the dress. However, the cover of If I Should Die is a totally different story. The swirls are ultra cheesy and I don’t like the girl cover model’s dress. The cover model’s hair also looks so awkward.

What I Liked:

  •  Amy Plum’s Revenants trilogy is set in Paris. Who doesn’t love reading books that are set in Paris?
  • Revenants is a new kind of unique supernatural that Amy Plum has created.

What I Didn’t Like:

  •  The writing is too formal and too polite for me, if that’s even the correct word to describe it.
  •  Amy Plum’s writing makes it really hard to connect with any of the characters, if at all. I read the entire series without connecting to any of the characters in the series.
  •  Die For Me is very similar to Twilight – the insta-love, the new girl, the “I know you’re not human,” etc.
  •  85% of the series is focused on the “passionate” love between Kate and Vincent. 85%. Yes, I’m dead serious.

Do I Recommend It?
Sorry, but no. Skip this series. It’s really not worth your time.

Favorite Book in the Series:

  •  Until I Die is my favorite book in the series because it’s the one book in the series that has the most things happening instead of just focusing on Vincent and Kate’s love life.

Favorite Character(s):

  •  Charlotte is probably my favorite character in the entire Revenants trilogy. Shes goes through a huge character development – Charlotte went from a meek, quiet person in Die For Me to a strong, fierce leader in If I Should Die.

Effortlessly Quotable:

  •  Quotes from Die For Me and Until I Die soon to come.
  •  Can’t find any good quotes from If I Should Die. ):

I’ve read Die for Me, which I thought was OK but not spectacular, and I’ve been debating whether or not I’m invested enough to continue the series. I’m a bit torn because I loved the depiction of Paris in the first book, but I didn’t find Kate to be a very compelling protagonist. And I totally agree with you about the parallels with Twilight.

Yeah, Kate was definitely not a very compelling protagonist. It was so hard to connect with her and she was so insecure in Die For Me, saying that she was nothing special or pretty, that I was getting tired of it.

You’ll definitely like the third book Jackie, there is a HUGE plot twist that will probably leave you gaping in shock. :P

I agree about this series. Everybody loves it so much and I’m just ‘meh’ about it. I can’t wait to read the last book though. I want to finish it and I hate the cliff hanger from Until I die. I hope there is more to the story than their love-story, because it is indeed a lot like Twilight.

Yep, the cliffhanger made me mad because how could Amy Plum just end the series like that? However, the first 50% of If I Should Die is dedicated to saving Vincent and nothing else, which bored me to death. :l

Yikes. I despised Die for Me, I admire you for making it through the whole series! You trooper, you :)

I definitely will NOT be reading book 2 to see if it gets any better, seeing as how it clearly does not. Baha.

I despised Die For Me too, but beautiful covers are my weakness. ):
And yeah, the series sadly doesn’t get any better. Such a waste of a beautiful cover.

I’ve only read the first one, which I remember loving (but knowing that it was mostly because I read it at the right time, in the right mood).

It sucks to hear the series doesn’t get better, but Charlotte’s character arc sounds really interesting!

I read Die For Me when I was in the mood for a book that took place in Paris, but I didn’t quite enjoy it to my disappoint. ):
Yeah, the series sadly doesn’t get any better.
Charlotte’s character develops only in the last book though. I think that it would have been better if she slowly changes throughout the series.

I stopped after reading the first book because the insta-love was just too much for me. After reading this overview, I really don’t regret not finishing the trilogy. But it’s such a pity the covers so enchanting, they made me wish I actually liked the books better! :(

Oh, yes, the insta-love. UGH. People say that it’s like Twilight, and I have to agree.
Yeah, this series has such pretty covers! It makes me want to buy the entire series just for the covers alone.
