Top Ten Worst Movie Adaptions

toptentuesday

Each week, The Broke and Bookish host a Top Ten Tuesday based on a certain bookish topic. Other bloggers are able to participate and post their own top ten list based on the topic.

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is a Top Ten Worse Movie Adaptions.

Okay, guys, this topic was hard for me to do because I hardly watch any movies at all. I know, I know, what kind of person doesn’t watch much movies at all? Therefore, this list is super short.

So here’s my list in no particular order:

thelightningthief beautifulcreatures ellaenchanted

1. The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
There were so many problems with the movie. Annabeth wasn’t blond, I didn’t see the gods I wanted to see (where’s the god that tied Percy and his crew up to beds?!), and to make matters even worse, almost the entire plot was changed. I was definitely not happy with the movie.

2. Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
To be fair, I never watched more than 25 minutes of the movie, but my general rule for movies is that if the movie doesn’t catch my attention in the first ten minutes, I’m moving on to the next movie. It’s just, the movie just wasn’t my style.

3. Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine
I watched Ella Enchanted the other day and it was not like the book one bit, except for the whole Ella has to follow orders thing. Plus, Prince Char was not even a bit cute, which should be a crime.

beastly4. Beastly by Alex Flinn
Okay, the beast in the movie is hot (how can Alex Pettyfer not be?), but the most important point is, he is not a beast. That completely blows it for me.

And now, I want to know, what are your top ten best/worst movie adaptions?

Beautiful Creatures would top my list too. I was so disappointed in that movie.

Great list! I actually had Beautiful Creatures on my liked list. I thought it was good.

And I can completely agree with Ella Enchanted. It was also on my list for the simple reason that it was awful. The worst part was all the modern stuff that they put in it. And yah, Prince Char wasn’t cute at all. And I agree that should be a crime.

I’m glad that you enjoyed Beautiful Creatures a lot more than I did Kimberly! I couldn’t stand the guy’s accent. :l
Yay, I’m so glad you agree with me on Ella Enchanted’s awfulness! And when I saw Prince Char, I was like THAT is Prince Char? Wait, no, you’re kidding me right? Then I proceeded to get really angry when I discovered that yes, that IS Prince Char.

Beautiful Creatures and Percy Jackson were on my list of worst movies too. BC was NOTHING like the book at all. It was so disappointing.

I know! I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way. What are people thinking, changing the book’s storyline? I mean, the books are famous/popular for a reason.

I hated Beautiful Creatures the book, so I can’t see myself ever watching the movie unless it came on TV and I had absolutely nothing better to do. It looked pretty corny. Beastly is on my list, too – I really disliked how they did it. The guy is a little odd-looking, but I don’t think I’d look twice at him if I passed him on the street.

      I didn’t even finish the book. :P
I read like 150 pages of it and nothing really happened. Who cares about popular kids bullying someone and Ethan’s “interesting” life for 150 pages?
I’d probably look at him once and think that he has some unique tattoos, but that’s it. He definitely won’t be a beast in my book.

I was so mad about the Beautiful Creatures movie…. I really liked the book so I was expecting them not to hack it apart like they did. Oh well. :-/

I haven’t seen Beautiful Creatures but I am not at all happy with the cast. They look so old! Also, I heard that they changed a lot of things. Maybe I’ll give it a try when I’m in a bitchy mood. To, you know, take it apart with my sister while eating popcorn.
I haven’t read Percy Jackson so I kinda enjoyed that film. I’ve heard they changed a lot of things though, and I can see how that would be annoying!
I’ve read Beastly and thought it was okay, but haven’t seen the movie. If he’s not a hairy beast though then that changes basically everything. Not cool.

By the way, I have a hard time watching movies too! If I don’t see them at the cinema, I find it hard to sit through a whole movie without doing other stuff in-between or at the same time. So I buy tons of cheap DVDs… and then never watch them ^^”

I know! The guy that plays Ethan doesn’t even look like a teenager.
Don’t kill me when I say this, but the cast for Divergent? I think they all look so old too.
And omg, I would LOVE to join you and your sister on taking the movie apart. We’ll be hungry, angry beasts. ;D
Eep, then I recommend you not to read The Lightning Thief until the details of the movie are fuzzy in your mind. Believe me, you don’t want to be as angry as I was. :P
He was just a bald headed guy with some weird tattoo on his head. That’s it. A beast? I don’t think so.
Yay! Another person like me! -high fives- :D<3

Kelly Beastly is quite popular in the worse movie adaptations. I quite liked Beautiful Creatures but I haven’t read the books yet so maybe that’s why I didn’t mind the movie so much.

Really? I saw Beastly only on one other person’s list. o:
I’ve only read the first 150 pages of Beautiful Creatures so I can’t really verify this, but other people said that the movie had changed a lot of things from the book.

I haven’t read Beautiful Creatures yet so I didn’t watch the movie. And Ella enchanted, I’ve seen the movie but wasn’t able to read the book so I don’t have any comment. The same goes for Beastly, I have nothing to compare since I haven’t had the chance to read the book.
But Percy Jackson, I absolutely agree with you. The movie was haphazardly made. I hope that they do a better job in the upcoming Sea of Monsters movie. *sighs*

I’ve never read Sea of Monsters yet, so if I watch it, I can’t exactly say if it follows the book or not. :P
But hey, at least they changed Annabeth’s hair color. You should have seen my face when I saw that The Lightning Thief movie didn’t even bother changing her hair color to match the book.

Beautiful Creatures is a disappointment to me as both a movie and a book. I just found both to be boring.

I forgot about The Lightning Thief when I was making my list, that was a bad adaptation for sure!

I liked Beautiful Creatures (the film) way better than I thought and have heard the book is boring. Ella Enchanted is cute albeit silly (as is the book good) and I am admittedly fond of Beastly (both the book and movie). Regarding Beastly I think the book is more “immature” than the film (the dialogue, etc.) and I actually liked him not being a literal beast. There was creativity in keeping him more human and that’s what writing is all about.

Sorry you didn’t enjoy these, Kelly. But it’s always fun to get the perspective of others! :)

I agree with all four movies on this list. Ella Enchanted is on my list of all time favorite books and I was so disappointed with how they did the movie. I would also add Eragon to the list. Although it’s technically an adaptation of a TV show to movie, I always thing of Avatar: The Last Airbender when I think of these list. They didn’t even pronounce half of the names correctly! I could possibly understand how that could happen with a book, but when your adapting a TV show?!?!?
