Let’s Speculate: What’s With All These Series?

I decided to postpone the discussion post I had scheduled this week to talk about Mel’s series discussion post. Mel says that everyone suffers from a series problem, which I definitely agree with as you can see below at my long, long, very long list.

Also, credits goes to Jessi from Novel Heartbeat for making the series list (finished series, series I need to finish, etc.) I based mines off of! (Sorry for accidentally not giving you credit for the series list Jessi!)

This post took me awhile to write up. By “awhile,” I mean more than a month since I read so many series and I procrastinated typing up this post.

This list is made up of young adult series only.

As you can see, I have a ton (I don’t think I’m exaggerating about it) of series to catch up with or finish.

The brilliant Octavia from Read. Sleep. Repeat. came up with the 2014 Series Challenge to help us face the problem! I will definitely need the help.

What series do you have to finish? Gave up on? What series would you recommend? Do you too have this HUGE problem too?

You have repeated Anna and The Ghost and the Goth twice, in the first list. The Selection by Kiera Cass (The Selection, The Elite, The One) in the uncompleted series is also repeated so is Nightshade by Andrea Cremer (Nightshade, Wolfsbane, Bloodrose) in the series you’ve given up on.

Even I’ve quiet a few series I’ve yet to finish, Raine Benares by Lisa Shearin, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, On Dublin Street by Samantha Young, Highland Pleasures by Jennifer Ashley, Losing It by Cora Carmack, Kathleen Turner by Tiffany Snow and a hell lot more. I noticed that you did not have the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews anywhere. Haven’t you read the series yet? Or are you not interested at all?

Ha ha, thank you so much for pointing out all these mistakes! This post was a draft for SO long and as you can tell, I messed up on so much because of that. :P
Is Kate Daniels an adult series, because this is a young adult series list. But yeah, I haven’t read that one yet – my library sadly doesn’t have it. ):

WOW. There are SO many series in the young adult genre, and I think some of them are ridiculous, Like, I’m pretty sure *insert book title* is fine with being standalone and not stretched into a series. I’ve only finished 1 series…err.trilogy.. which is Across the Universe by Beth Revis. I have SO many series that I need to finish like The Hunger Games, Divergent, Legend, Lunar Chronicles, Teardrop, Anna and the French Kiss, etc. I can finish THG and Divergent right now, but I’m purposefully putting the last books off because I want to read the last book like a week before the movie comes out (which is next year :/).

Agreed with you x10! Some series should have ended a LONG time ago.
Ha ha, one series? I admire your restraint! (P.S. Finish reading Anna and the French Kiss! That series is BEYOND awesome!)
I haven’t read Allegiant yet (for different reasons from you though), so don’t worry about it. ;D

This is why I stay away from starting series these days. I feel that a lot of people write series because it’s a thing now and not because the story really NEEDS to be told in two or three installments, and that also annoys me.
Good luck with reading all those series! I’ve decided not to read Allegiant (started and hated every page). I did recently read The Program, and I intend on finishing that duology when it completes. The only series I think I definitely want to start (and is way overdue) is the Graceling Realm.

I am terrible with series. I often start them after a few books are already out. Then get distracted by all the new other books I want to read and ever end up finishing them.

But I think it’s a great think there are so many series out there that I want to start/continue with. So many amazing authors who keep telling great stories that I want to read. I like how you organized the series that you’ve read/want to read. I have so many of your want to read series on my to-read list too! Will eventually get to them… someday!

Great post and thanks for the link back! It’s such a bummer that I lost my series file.. I still need to find the courage to start over, but this posts reminds me that I really enjoyed seeing how I’m doing – I think I’ll get started right now :)

I have up on Matched too. I just did. not. click at all with any of the characters. And the narrator was so sooky to me! But on the other hand, I adored The Wolves of Mercy Falls series. It wasn’t exactly fast paced or riveting though…but the characters were awesome and funny. I have SO many series I should finish! I usually read the first in a series and then move onto something else, whether I liked it or not. >_< Must remedy that!

Oh my gosh. What a list! This post must’ve taken FOREVER to make. I don’t think that my list would be quite as bad as yours, but it’s definitely my biggest and most frustrating problem when it comes to reading.

I’m pretty sure the only series I’ve ever finished was Harry Potter.

I’ve started several series, and I may or may not finish them if they hold my attention. Most of the time they don’t. Or maybe, I’d rather get lost in someone else’s world. I’m a fairly slow reader, so there are many books that would go unread if I finished all of the series I started.

It’s about time you did one! ;p

Ours our pretty close, here was mine:
Completely finished series: 19 [not quite as many as yours!]
Series I need to finish (all books published): 31 [WAY more than you! I fail]
Series I need to catch up on (unread published books, unfinished series): 28
Series I’m caught up on (have books unpublished yet): 38
    Series I don’t plan to finish: 30
Series I want to start: 27

Hey, would you mind linking to me? I know the idea was originally Mel’s, but you used the format basically word for word off of mine without giving credit for it >.<

Oops, I thought I did link mines to yours Jessi! Sorry about that – this post was a three-week draft, which was why I made so many mistakes and repeated some series in my list. It’s all fixed now. :D
I may have read more finished series than you did, but you read a lot more series with more books in it than I did! I mean, six books in a series? Um, no thank you. (The only expectation I have for this is the Throne of Glass series by Sarah Maas.)
Nah, you don’t fail. :P It’s just that I read WAY more books that are in a series than standalone books since most standalone books are contemporaries and I don’t enjoy reading most contemporaries.
And sorry about the credit thing again! This (hopefully) won’t happen again!

Baha yeah, I’ve only got the two by my favorite author though. Other than that, I don’t like to start anything that’s longer than a trilogy! Commitment issues, I suppose…
