Let’s Speculate: The Awesomeness Of Twitter

letsspeculate

Believe me, I wasn’t a fan of twitter before. In fact, I resented it. I told myself I would NEVER make a twitter because it was lame and probably overrated, even though the giveaways I entered kept urging me to so. (I wonder how many of you are offended right now. In my defense, I didn’t know how much twitter will change my life. I just thought it was some lame social media gimmick. I mean, Facebook is enough right?)

reject

I’m going to calmly reject you twitter.

I don’t remember why I made a twitter in the first place. It doesn’t really matter since once I got into the awesomeness that is twitter, I completely changed my mind about it. I don’t think I can even live without twitter now. I love reading about people’s lives without them knowing (yes, I twitter stalk, shhh!), I love seeing people’s opinions on books I want to read or books that I’ve already read, and I just love the inspiration people on twitter give me. Someone just wrote 5 reviews that day? Hey, maybe I can do that too!

Okay, this might sound all cheesy now, but without twitter, I wouldn’t have met some awesome people in my life and gotten to know them very well, like the awesome Cee from The Novel Hermit (aka the person who I have #randomhashtagconversationswith that probably annoy a majority of my followers, but who cares?). I would have also never met Jessi from Novel Heartbeat without twitter either (did you know twitter basically introduced my blog to her and helped start an awesome friendship?).

Twitter is also a great way to help promote your blog, especially with the Tweet Old Post plugin for WordPress. The Tweet Old Post plugin helps you tweet some of your old blog posts, which introduces and highlights your old blog posts again to people who might have missed seeing that post before.

There is one big twitter no-no though: Do not use your twitter only to post links (like those giveaway links) or plain retweet. Interact with people! You do not know how many awesome people I met and chatted with using twitter, people I would have never have met if it wasn’t for twitter.

In the end, what I’m trying to say is don’t be like the old foolish me. You can’t live without twitter. No, seriously, you can’t.

How about you? Do you love twitter as much as I do or do you hate it? And isn’t the GIF I used for this post SO adorable?

kitty gifs are ALWAYS A+ in my book :)

I only signed up for twitter in the past year or so. For the longest time I never bothered – like you I thought facebook was enough. Once I hopped on board, however, there was no looking back. Not only is it super helpful for promoting blog posts, but it’s just plain FUN. I love interacting with people – authors, random celebrities, friends.

I’m not as obsessed as other people are though. There will be days where I won’t think about it, even though I ALWAYS have my phone on me. Other days I’ll do nothing but tweet!

I was debating between using two different kitty GIFs and decided on this one. The other one was so cute too! ;D
YES YES YES. I just can’t live without twitter now – Facebook what? What’s that?
I’m not as obsessed with twitter as other people are either – I only go on twitter when I’m on my computer and bored or to check for updates. When I’m out, I never think about twitter. :P

It’s really cool how Twitter let you meet some of your close blog friends. I’ve been trying to use Twitter more, but I’m honestly not sure what to do with it. I should start experimenting with it!

Talking on twitter is awesome – it helps you open up. It also helps you to get to know people without talking to them face to face and you can meet them in person when you’re ready to. (:

Yes, you are right. I wouldnt have met the rest of the blogosphere without twitter. A friend made some snide remarks about Twitter recently which gave him my response of “You dont know what you are missing out on” and its so true! I cant think why I didnt use it properly before! I’m glad I do now. :D

The gif you used IS adorable. I love it. I have to admit that I haven’t gotten in Twitter nearly as much as I should. I can absolutely see its merits, but I just often forget about it. I do agree that it is a wonderful way to connect with other bloggers I do love it for that reason. But I also hate the spoilers that get posted or how much you have to wade through. I do plan on using Twitter more this year. Great post!

    I LOVE TWITTER.

I joined it as soon as I made my blog (I had Twitter before that but never took the time to know how to use it so I deleted that account) because everyone was like this is essential to blogging. I didn’t understand it at first but now it’s the best social media out there. Facebook what? I don’t even like that anymore. =/

Anyhow, Twitter is amazing because we get to meet like minded bookish people and flail over good books and sometimes the bad ones (LOL). I honestly cannot get enough of it. Ha ha.

Oh, Twitter. I have a love-hate relationship with it. I never used it before I started blogging even though I have had an account forever. But then I started to blog and it’s one of my favorite ways to keep up to date with authors and other bloggers, etc. I really hate the character limit though.

I LOVE using Twitter…except that it makes me procrastinate SO much. But I completely agree with you. Interacting with others, bloggers or otherwise, has been so awesome, and I’ve met so many amazing people. It definitely also really helps to get your blog out there! The friends I’ve made have helped and supported me so much, offering me advice, support, and their opinions, and it’s been wonderful. Now I just need to get myself to get off Twitter more and procrastinate less…

I LOVE twitter! It took me forever to understand how to work it tho because I am a complete technophobe! I honestly don’t know how I manage to post anything because it hates me! I have been able to interact with other bloggers and authors who have made me feel like what I am doing is normal which is great because blogging is so much fun and it makes me feel so special when I get replies from other people who have taken the time to read what I have to say! It’s great!

I love Twitter. I left Facebook for Twitter just because I like that Twitter is a lot less pretentious. People seem to realize how ridiculous they are (or maybe it’s just the people that I follow?) and I love the idea of the neverending global consciousness. Twitter is about sharing ideas, and keeping up with interests so I’m pretty much always on it (I stalk too :p).

I’m definitely trying to interact more on Twitter, which is a little weird for me because I have two Twitter accounts, a personal one and an official blog account. It’s a little hard sometimes to be active on both, so although it seems like I don’t tweet a lot, I’m still on Twitter.

    Great post!

Oh that cat gif! It totally describes how I felt about twitter for the longest time. I made one a few months ago for whatever reason and I think it’s part of the reason I started blogging again. Honestly, though, I ‘m scared to talk to people. I have no idea what I would say and so even though I want to comment sometimes.. I don’t :/
I do love reading the stuff authors and bloggers do during the day. It certainly introduces me to new books and new people. It gives me the chance to share my posts and there’s always those extra giveaway entries. But I feel weird tweeting about my day or whatever. I feel like, if I tried, no one would care o.o

I thought I would never get into Twitter, but bam! I did. Initially, I refused to join because I’m a cool kid and no cool kid joins that dumb site. I was wrong. I joined. I used to use it sparingly, but last summer, I began to use it a lot and I AM OBSESSED. IT IS MY ENTIRE LIFE. I have essentially traded Tumblr and texting for Twitter, and I regret nothinnngggg. I feel like Twitter is much easier for me to communicate with other people.

Awwwwwwww. I’m blushing from your sweet comment about moi. <3 I totally agree with you. Without Twitter, I would not have gotten to know any of the awesome bloggers/friends I talk to. I feel like at times, it's hard to have a conversation in someone's blog. Twitter is an amazing platform for everybody to talk about all the different things in the world. Sure, you're stuck with 140 characters but it's enough to say all you need to say.

(btw, that gif is puuuurrrrrfect. ;D)

I always thought Twitter was lame and said I’d never get one. Constant status updates? So lame! And for someone who is just using it for IRL friends, it is. LOOOOL. Kelly, I feel like this was written just for me. See, I never really saw the point of Twitter. Everyone posts those whatever-you-call-its and everyone retweets and idk, there’s Facebook already, so why this? And there’s always a TON of hashtags. How to hashtag.. Not to mention, I’m like socially awkward (if that’s not obvious enough even online) so I wouldn’t really strike up a conversation with someone. Yet I’m still giving in; I’M MAKING A TWITTER ACCOUNT. Present tense, because it’s so incredibly hard to come up with a good username. I’ll tell you when it’s decided. ;)

And Kelly, that gif is the cutest thing ever.

Can someone recommend a romance book with a bearded logger hero? (I actually asked that last question on Twitter and got a great recommendation.)

Man, I was made for twitter. My brain tends to work in one liners but I’m a quiet person so they usually don’t get shared with the world and everyone misses out on the awesome (I’m exaggerating for storytelling purporses, okay)
In comes twitter where I have 140 characters to spin my somewhat normal and boring life into something hilarious! I love how depending on how you phrase something you can get a different response to people.
And it’s true how you said you can discover people! I’ve actually made internet friends and found new authors and all that jazz just through twitter! It’s the actual coolest.
    I just really love twitter…
